Some tips for some first time mushroom hunters?

Hey guys! Been getting loads of info from this site, its brilliant! My girlfriend and I are travelling the East Coast of Australia, were currently in NSW. We spent the last 2 days hunting for mushrooms but no luck! We started first looking in farms... Loads of cow cakes and tall grass but no mushrooms (not even the non-magical kind). I decided we probably wont find any of that kind (Copelandia cyanescens) since its winter.
However apparently Psilocybe subaeruginosas grow in winter, so we spent today looking in an almost tropical rainforest, wheres theres loads of decomposing trees and such, but after many hours all we found was fungus and 3 very small, very lonely mushrooms, and not the ones were after...
Any tips from anyone in NSW would be great!
Weve been looking near creeks and stuff for the moisture, and under dead trees, is this the right thing to do?
There hasnt been any rain in quite a while, should we wait until it rains a bit before looking? And if so how long do they take to grow?
Sorry for all the questions haha!
Thanks in advance, Leadwing

My advice, wait until you are seeing random mushrooms all over - "green gills" in regular lawns, etc.., very wet outside. This is a great sign to go and look.

Hmm ok. Should I start doing the rain summoning dance? If it does rain for a while, how long would you expect before they start popping up? Cheers buddies

Wicked. And we should expect Psilocybe subaeruginosas? Or subs as you call them?

When you grow them yourself you have to colonize jars with spores which turn into mycelium... they take a month and a few weeks to grow yourself.
But in nature they are colonizing on tons and tons of different poop piles or different wood logs or different lawns then they are waiting for rain to form pins and turn into mushrooms..
a mushroom only need 2-3 days to fully mature but mycelium needs a while to colonize shit to get nutrients to form the mushrooms and shit
i dont know the process and science behind it enough to explain it better though sorry
