Bulk substrate ingredients ratio

I am going to make bulk substrate with hPoo,Straw,Coir,WormCasting, verm, because RR said in a thread that a combination of ingredients works better than single ingredient.
What is the best ratio of these ingredients?
hPoo,Straw,Coir,WormCasting-----50% Verm-----50%
RR said this(50% verm) works fine. But didnt mention hPoo,Straw,Coir,WormCasting ratio.
I want to add coffee grinds and compost too but I dont drink coffee everyday (are those who use this are saving coffee grinds everyday? Family have to support him for bulk substrate,I suppose.) and compost is diffcult to make so Ill go with above four ingredients.
Experienced growers,please help.

When you make a sub you can mix the ingredients in any amount you want.
I do not see any lime or calcium in your list. What are you going to buffer the p.h. with?
You don't need allot of used coffee just a few cups of grinds or some half strength normal drinking coffe will add a nice amount of nitrogen.

dont add lime to your substrate keep that for your casing. add gysum though like mystique stated at roughly 10% of your total substare.
and yes go with whatever you want for ratios. 50/50 horse manure/straw works great. remember that horse manure has a good nitrogen level to begin with to if your going to use that skimp on the coffe a little. i only use coffee when i do just a straight coir grow then i use it a 20%.
if your going to do hpoo/straw dont use 50% verm. id go no more than 10% you really dont even need it if your going to use straw. now if you were just going to use straight horse manure then i would fluff it up with some verm because horse manure has a tendency to compact.

The bulk subs (coir/straw/dung/compost) can be mixed in any amount. Worm castings can get messy, I'd recommend not going over 10% with that. Previous poster is correct, no need for calcium in the sub, but 5-10% gypsum could be helpful.
I'm not sure adding 50% vermiculite to the sub is a good idea. That's half the mixture, not adding any nutritional value. Anyone had good results with high verm rates in the sub? I would be concerned that the overall yield would be low...

Mix the ingredients in any proportion you have. The only time you'd need 50% verm is if you're using straight worm castings or bagged cow manure. For your mix, ten percent verm is plenty. You could easily add in ten percent or so of nursery bagged steer manure, and up to 5% by volume chicken manure if you want to grow some monsters.
As said, don't lime substrates, but use gypsum at up to ten percent. RR

Thank you very much for your help. It's very helpful, many thanks.
I didn't know that bulk subs can be mixed in any amount.
So how about this one?
5% chicken manure 5% coffee grounds 10% verm 10% coir 10% gypsum 10% cow/steer/bull manure 10% wormcasting 20% horse manure 20% straw
I am not sure if I can get chiken manure and cow/steer/bull manure fresh.I may have to buy from a store. It is sold like "cow manure compost".In that case do you think I should skimp on cow and chicken manure?
BTW,there is a zoo within 20 miniutes ride from where I live.Manure of Zebra,Serow,Giraffe is availbe.
And as for coffee grounds, can I use directly,or should it be spent grounds?
And why don't add lime? I have hydrated lime, powdered oyster shells, and Calcium Carbonate. I was planning to adjust PH using above three after mixing all of the ingredients together. What's the best PH for substrate? or isn't nesessary to set PH?

substrates like a ph of 5.5-6
i never check the ph of my sibstrates though, just my casing material.
i wouldnt even bother using the composted cow manure and just use more horse manure. horse manure is golden. other then that that ratio looks like it could bring home the bacon if you prepare everything right.
use spent coffee grounds not fresh ones.
good luck

Personally, I would leave out the cow manure. If you can get h-poo, cow manure is just lowering the quality IMO.

Cow/steer manure is more nutritious than horse manure. I'd use as many different ingredients in a substrate as possible. Each one adds its own qualities. RR

If you can get good cow manure, I'm sure it's great, but bagged cow manure is a crap shoot.

The bagged is what I was referring to. I've used it for many years with lots of different brands. As long as it's mixed with verm or other better textured substrate ingredients, it's great. Horse manure and coir are preferred simply because the texture is perfect for mushroom mycelium. RR

Every time I buy cow manure, it smells like a sewage treatment plant, even after prolonged sun/water leeching. Even if it didn't stink to high heaven (which isn't so much a problem after colonization), my results when mixed with straw and verm, were way less than optimal.
I can live without the stuff.
Point taken though. I should have worded differently.

Does that mean that a bagged horse manure(sold as horse manure compost) has equal value to the nugget like aged horse manure if it's properly adjusted with coir or verm? Then, bulk sub preparing work becomes lot easier for me.No need to ask a horse club for poo everytime i grow.

Will be using this recipe in a few days - very timely, thanks!
