No, the newest MB's cant be done from what Ive read. I know the daxter bundle is doable (which I did with a spare battery and nothing else besides the downloadable software) and people have reported that the madden bundle can be done.

From what Ive read there are new motherboards out that cannot be downgraded. I dont think theyre on shelves in any great quantity now but if its true theyre coming.

From PSP-Hacks (because thats where I originally saw it):
http://www.psp-hacks.com/2008/07/24/non-pandorizable-psp-ta-088-motherboards/
If you pick the short straw sure youll be able to downgrade eventually but youve bought a 200 dollar turd in the mean time.

I dunno man, If you want to be sure then youll have to do some research. I would look for a database or a reliable source of information on which motherboard to avoid and what numbers it sports on the box and avoid said PSP. From what I know the silver Daxter bundle is hackable (from my experience) and Ive been told the madden 09 bundle is hackable. I personally would register at a site LIKE psphacks (its really gone downhill, full of ads and trolls) and read first then ask questions. I personally wouldnt want a fat but if youve no problem with one then its the way to go.

Yes, you need both a Pandora battery and a magic memory stick. A magic memory stick is just a regular memory stick which is specially formatted, you can easily create it yourself. The battery you'll have to buy (unless you have access to a PSP Phat running custom firmware, then you can make your own). Get a good deal here (they also have magic memory stick bundles if you want). Then here's a good guide to the whole process, read it thoroughly and you'll be fine. Good luck!

Like Jamio said, the only PSPs which can run homebrew out of the box are very old PSP Phats with outdated official firmware. And since most new games won't run with such old firmware, it's not very useful anymore. You pretty much need to flash it, so suck it up and start learning.
To create a magic memory stick, 64MB should be more than enough. But once your PSP is flashed you'll probably want lots of space to store games, which are usually between 100MB and 1.8GB each. It's really just a question of your cashflow and how much you like videogames I guess. I wouldn't get one smaller than 2GB or there will be games which won't fit. Personally I own a 16GB stick and it's great to have like 15 games at once, plus a dozen SNES ROMs and a few PSX games. But the best deals per GB are on the 4GB and 8GB sticks right now. If you don't mind counterfeit products you can find some good prices on eBay.

That's what's supposed to happen, if you have a properly formatted magic memory stick inserted with the custom firmware, it will automatically begin the flashing procedure. Follow the first part of the instructions here where it explains how to use PSP Grader to make a magic memory stick.
