Results from first hunt. (Pics to be added ASAP)

Habitat:
I found these growing on a rotted out stump near Ottawa Ontario. (South-East Ontario)

Gills:
Please explain these to me.

Stem:
The stem is small and brown. nearer to the cap it becomes white. It is .5 to .25 times the diameter of a pencil. The stem seems to be solid.

Cap:
The cap is dark brown and circular. It is darker around the edges. The most narrow part of the cap is upwards. (Don't remember my concave convex right now :P)

Spore print color:
Explanation/link?

Bruising:
Didn't notice any bruising.

Other information:
Insects seemed not to mind it.

Notes:
I don't personally believe this mushroom to be "magic" just because of fact that they're rare in my area. Also, there were insects crawling on it, wouldn't they've learned to avoid it?

I realize this is a very... broad description, but as soon as I can I'll post pictures, may be a day or two.

Gills: radiating plate-like structures on the underside of the cap of many mushrooms also called lamella (plural: lamellae). Gills are located underneath of the cap (if it has gills instead of pores). They can be attached to the stem or unattached. It's also where the spores are located (on mushrooms that have gills).
