ID Request (South Texas)
    #8797460 - 08/19/08 07:33 PM (9 years, 9 months ago)

Hey, so my family is part of a lease for hunting where incidentally, tons of cattle are raised. Theres cow patties everywhere. Weve had quite a bit of rain lately and today it rained steadily from about 9:00AM-1:00PM so I figured Id drive out to the lease and take a quick look around around 5:00. I think I went a bit early as everything was tiny. Heres some shots of what I found:

Species 1:

Species 2:

Species 3:

Species 4 (foreground):

Species 5:

Species 6:

Some of these species groupings might not be completely correct, I'm not sure. I'm looking for actives, do any of these have potential? Would it be worthwhile to go again tomorrow and have another look-see?

Pictures don't work. Read the first post in the forum index that explains how to post them.

Actually, that page contains all the information you need to arm yourself with the knowledge of finding actives and id'ing them properly.
Not to mention how to post an id request.
It does not matter what time of day or night you look, and YES, your chances are good for finding actives.

Good Luck! :mushroom2:

So..I'm not really sure how likely I am to find actives out there if I take another look around. I mean there's manure everywhere and it's the right climate but are there some instances where cubes just haven't really been introduced into an area? Or is it a case of just needing to look harder and I'll almost certainly find them?

Really, how should we know?
I already told you your chances are good.
Do a search for texas, and you'll see a post made today from a respected member that says "Texas is in full bloom  " then again, so is SC, but there is a ton of cow shit right now in my neighborhood that does not produce, hmph,go figure.

Actually, species 4 looks like it might be a cope  I don't think thats a cube pin behind it. None of the others are active.

Looks like you already found one.  #4 might be a Copelandia cyanescens.  Use the search engine as was suggested for Psilocybe cubensis "cubes"  Panaeolus subbalteatus "subbs" and Panaeolus cyanescens or Copelandia cyansecens "copes".  When you've done that go look for the mushrooms in the pictures.  Some of the threads will contain advice for finding them.

There is also the Hunting FAQ:

Good luck!
