hey guys i was just hoping i could get some advice or info from someone here bout my cacti seedlings. so all my pots have seem to been infected by some little flying bug and im worried that these things have been chewing on the roots to my seedlings so i just wanted to ask since ive never grown cacti from seeds before how developed should seedling root systems be at around one and a half months? yesterday when i checked on them i picked a seedling up and it looked as though it had no roots at all growing just had a little chunk of soil sticking to it. and even if these little bastard bugs arent chewing the roots is there an easy and safe way to get rid of these bugs? they are spreading like wildfire through all my plants

yea spread a layer of Diatomaceous Earth over your soil. It will slice them open and they will die.
that stuff is AWESOME

btw they are fungus gnats and they do eat the roots off your seedlings...
like cpw said, DE is the stuff to use...
it will kill the larvae that live in the top layer of the soil pretty fast but it takes a few weeks to kill off the adult flies so dont worry if there are a few still around, it is slowly shredding them to death
just throw a load on the seed trays and spray with water if you spill any on the seedlings :yesnod:
