Starting Mimosoids and Acacia. Advice Welcomed

Alright, I have M hostilis, M verrucosa, M pudica, and Acacia maidenii. I have had most of these seeds for a couple of months, and the one attempt I made was very sorry. I had poor germination and then Damping off took hold. I know that I need to boil water, pour over seeds, allow to set 20-30 minutes, then sow. Here are my questions:
What is this pea thing I am keep reading about? Is it necessary?
Are jiffy cubes alright?
I treat the Acacia the same as the Mimosa, correct?

the pea thing: legumes have nitrogen fixing bacteria living in nodules on their roots...

my Mimosa's and Acacias are doing just fine without the Peas. They are pretty big and in 5 gallon pots and almost a few years old. I dont know about Jiify cubes because I dont waste my money on those lol. Just use potting soil.
and yes you can treat them the same. they are the easiest plants to care for that I ever had. The Acacias however are very tolerant of dry soil. The Mimosas will tell you the soil is dry by folding up their leaves like they are going to sleep. This prevents transpiration.

Don't do the hot water procedure, just file them a little bit and soak till they swell. A little more work but better germ rates.
Peas are unneccesary.
Avoid jiffy cubes, myself I'd go straight to a one gallon pot. Anything smaller and there is a risk of stunting them, which is harder on them than most plants it seems. If you can avoid stunting them and get them past the little seedling stage then you're scott free.

Thanks guys. Well, I decided to try the hot water method to jiffycubes. I made a tray of 10 hostilis, 5 verrucosa, 5 pudica, and 5 A maidenii. I am also going to try plainswalker's method. I am not bothering with peas though.
I have plenty of seeds, so I might as well try a couple of different methods. I here you about the cubes cpw. The netting can rip roots off. They really piss me off, but I have had great success with them.
THANKS GUYS!

I've always used a combo of nick and hot water treatment, be careful though to remove them as soon as they swell, it can take as little as a few minutes. I've also found pea inoculations to be useless, but to be honest save a few of your seeds for spring, I've always had better luck getting healthy plants under natural light, in my experience they WILL NOT grow to full maturity without some type of artificial light during winter months, I don't care how bright your south facing window might be, the decreasing hours of light tell it to go dormant, and without a sufficient root system it will just die.

I think I haved the light problem worked out. I am about to get a 400W HPS for my MJ closet. I will use the 125W CFL for other ventures such as this and cacti.

a 400HPS should work for the first winter for you. after putting out my babies in real sun this year "they are 2 years old now" they grew quite a bit. I imagine another year of that and lots of rootspace and they could hit 10 feet tall and have trunks the width of my wrist by next year. Actually my biggest Acacia Maidenii is about 6 foot or more now.

My biggest concern is what the hell am I going to do with all of my cacti, ethnos, and MJ once thing turn out cold. I am really starting to worry. This wouldn't be such an issue, but my fucking cat is an asshole. I think I might use my 125W CFL for my cacti and ethno seedlings,
but then again, I don't know if it will be sufficient. I may put up shelves in my hallway and hang cheap fluoro agro bulbs above them, and save the Mimosoids, Acacia, and Kratom for the 125W. The issue is space. I will sort this out, but I keep buying cacti lol. One thing is certain: the MJ stays in the closet with the HPS.

ive only got two little M. hostillis growing, but i only had 3 seeds.
didnt know anything special had to be done, so i put the seeds directly into wet soil
2/3 germinated...
they seem to be doing fine...
im not sayin this is the way to do them, just that this way worked for me.

you would be better off putting your cacti some place cool for the winter... you will NEED another hps if you want them to keep on growing throughout the winter months, cfl's don't make the grade (except for seedlings)

Once these guy's get a few set's of leaves make sure you give them as much light as possible, if you have to put them under the 125 cfl's, make sure you get hem as close as possible without burning them.

Alright, new questions:
I plan on keeping the cacti dormant during the winter. What is best? My shelf idea is on the east side of the house. They would get indirect light. The mimosa would be under the 125W CFL though. Does this all sound ok?
