When we got a family of mice in our restaurant, we had to call in an exterminator so we could open back up.  The traditional traps weren't catching anything so he started laying the sticky pads.  One day I saw him come in and check the sticky traps, when they find mice on them they have a little knife on their belt that they just stick through their neck into their heart and kill them instantly.  Seemed kinda creepy, even more so when he licked the knife clean.

Well he didn't actually do that, but it wouldn't have surprised me because the guy was kinda creepy.

I used glue traps a few months ago when I had two mice living in the kitchen here.  It wasn't until they started to dig up the peppers seedlings I had started on my windowsill that I finally decided to break out the big guns.  The traps I had claimed to have a natural anesthetic mixed in with the glue, but make no mistake that mouse was still struggling quite a bit once he got stuck!  I didn't notice any bruising or broken legs, but he was certainly not happy to see me coming at him while he couldn't get away.

Here are the plants that he kept digging up:

I knew that I was going into it with the goal of killing this thing, but I certainly didn't want to make him suffer in a hot garbage can as he starved or overheated to death.  So I got a gardening shovel and severed his brain stem.  It wasn't a pleasant thing to do by a long shot, but I think that it was better than the alternative of just leaving him to die a slower death.  Hard to say really, but what's done is done.

Here's a picture I snapped right before I took him out:

Snap traps don't always kill rats or mice. Once when I was younger I found a live rat caught in a rat trap. One of the ones that snap back, and it was still alive. My step dad took it out and threw it in a river next to our house.

I know killing the mouse doesn't seem like the solution if you are very animal friendly but rodents spread like crazy(as do other pests like cockroaches)! If you don't kill them you'll end up with an infestation and probably a condemned house or apartment. If you let them loose they'll just come back in... I mean hey they got in once didn't they? If you are really opposed to killing mice and such find the hole they are coming through and seal it. The only other problem is they could be coming in from outside piping that you can't seal. Thats the advice I got when we had a squirrel in our apartment.

We had a whole nest of mice in my grill (funny enough) but we let em live and come dec they were gone. Now in january im sitting in the den watching tv, when i see about 8 mice scurry across my kitchen floor. Thats when i bought a cat

That's probably a pretty good way to do it.

I was trained to kill mice by putting two fingers on the back of their heads and pulling their tails up, breaking their neck. It's called cervical dislocation. I much prefer to give them a lethal injection of sodium pentobarbitol but if you don't have any handy...

Glue traps a brutal.

I know this guy who used to catch mice on them. He would then throw gasoline onto them which would dissolve the glue. A quick match to the glue pad and you'd have flaming trails leading up to the dead mouse. He called it the "Back to the Future" :nonono:

*please do not try this

What kind of callous person would throw a living mouse into the trash that was stuck to glue, letting it die a very slow death. Its a brutual torture. Its like leaving a dog in a cage that you don't want and letting it die by itself sitting in the cage.

i used glue traps once.  i bought them because it said you could release the mice with some oil and a pencil eraser

so i caught a mouse and the poor thing was shaking and scared but seemed pretty much ok otherwise. i took the mouse out into a field and gently skooched it off the trap using a liberal amount of olive oil and my trusty #2.  the little mouse lay there soaked in oil and shaking for a moment, and then righted its self and started to stagger away.

i turned my back and walked away with a sense of pride that maybe i had done a good thing.  i got about ten steps when a hawk swooped down and finished the job.

true story no moral other than maybe go watch final destination

You guys ought to just wait until the day you pour a bowl of cereal and it has mouse feces all throughout it.  I tolerated those little bastards until that day, then it was war.  I used snap traps baited with chunks of hot dog tied to the trigger, and it worked great.  I think I killed like 8 or 9 mice within a week.  I prefer them to glue traps because they're cheaper and I always wind up getting my fingers stuck in the glue.  Plus they work better in my opinion.

Good to know.

Are there any traps that just contain the mice?  I just found evidence of the fuckers a few hours ago.

I'm sure you can get some cage traps from your local hardware store. Or a container type trap.

Oh come on! you haven't sacrificed for science until you done a nice aortic perfusion and then mounted 100 or so coronal slices of prefrontal cortex.
