whats the chance of some random straw(hay)containing any type of spore?

hongos were u being sarcastic or is their a chance that a pan type of spore has landed in the hay thats been out for almost a year.

Mushroom spores will attach to land animals, birds, the wind, streams of water and anything to move around... When a mushroom drops its spores its dropping literately thousands of spores... So spores are all around us all the time... Also mold spores count as spores and mold is all around us, so there will be spores inside that hay weather mold or mushrooms UNLESS it is store bought pasteurized hay then there might not be.

Consider that the average mushroom puts out something like 10 billion spores. There are a lot of mushrooms out there. Some of the big mushrooms that last awhile like Ganodermas can put out hundreds of times that many spores.

Along those lines, the average breath you take contains something like 100 spores. Every single breath.

Unless you do something to remove them, there are spores on everything.

Not at all, Diddyds.  I would take some strands of straw/hay and use a minimal amount of water to wash them.  Then I would look at the water under a microscope to see what I found. 

That's kinda like looking at pond water to see what's in it.  For those who haven't seen a Paramecium swim, you just don't know what you're missing.

OK 1 mooo:ooo:oooree thinng how long would it take to notice a fungi growth?....weeks..months........years...considering it gets water.

It depends on the conditions.  If you were taking straw or hay and trying to get it to produce mushrooms, you should see some growth of mycelium in less than a week.  The mushrooms will take longer of course.  A Panaeolus species should produce a mushroom within a month or two.

I think there are posts of guys using their lawn compost pile to produce Panaeolus subbalteatus.  Use the search engine and try to find them.
