Glue traps suck

Ugh, today I found a live mouse stuck on one of those things at work. And I have to say, these are one of the most inhumane things I have ever seen. His back legs seemed to be heavily bruised and broken, parts of skin ripped off in many places and his body was at such a contorted, torturous angle that the poor thing must've tried so hard pulling itself off for god knows how many hours overnight. With every movement he was squeaking pain, so he was clearly in a lot of physical distress.
A couple of my workmates also saw the injured animal. With an expression of indifference over the sight, they told me just to chuck it into the rubbish tip downstairs and I shouldn't feel bad about it because it was "just a mouse". Unbelievable.
Well, I had none of that. My conscience told me that this level of suffering was unacceptable, so I took him outside with a plastic bag, put him and the trap in the bag, found a vacant brick and did the deed. Felt sick afterwards, even went to my boss and told him about it. He sympathised with me and said that he was unaware that the pest control company was using glue traps, and promised that he would not only throw out the rest of them, but would order them to use more humane alternatives. Which, of course, I agreed with - with so many more humane methods out there, why would one use such a barbaric thing?
I'm in the school of thought that if you are to kill an animal, it should be done quickly, or at least minimise suffering rather than maximising it. This is why I found my workmates' suggestion offensive - fair enough that you have to kill a pest animal, but why let it suffer on super glue where it will just rip itself apart and dehydrate/starve? I don't get it. At least your traditional mouse trap is quick.
Yeah, so I hate glue traps. I think they're immoral, and totally unnecessary. What do you think about them?

That sucks, killing it was definitely the right move, rather than letting it suffer.

I feel you on that man... Grandmother is deathly afraid of snakes but her backyard is the perfect environment for garter snakes, moles, insects, etc.
Calls me over one day in a panic and the cutest little garter snake I've ever seen is stuck on a glue trap. Ripped some scales off, got himself caught more, torn flesh, ugh fuck it man, you get the idea. I tried so many things to free him until I realized his lower jaw was completely separated from the top of his head.
Plastic bag and did the deed, left without saying anything. Felt horrible for weeks.

Woah, that's fucked up man.
Good thing though is that in Australia these traps aren't too widely available to the general public as the major hardware and supermarket chains have recently taken them off their shelves. But I think they should be illegal.

Yeah I've never heard of them. They sound horrible.
I tried for months to catch a rat with regular traps but it never worked. Then I got some ratsack. That works a treat... I hope it's not too painful for it.

i once found a whole family of baby mice stuck on a glue trap in my garage when i was a child. it made me sick...
since that day i have always used live traps, which work quite well actually.

I had a mouse in my house a few months back. I used one of the snap traps. I found the mouse dead in the morning
I think the glue traps were more expensive than the one I used. It was like $1.29 or something for a 2 pack.

They should use glue traps on death row inmates and exucute them that way. For like baby killers.

No no, death by inertia.
Accelerate the accused at 9.81 m/s^2, and then promptly decelerate them.

they have mouse traps that don't kill the mouse or make is suffer, it puts them in a cage that prevents the mouse from moving, and you just put them outside. glue traps are so unnecessary.

Put them outside so they can come right back into your house the same way they came in?

That's not a fault of the trap, but the idiocy of the operator. Naturally you move it away.

Agreed, the glue traps are a very cruel means of death. I used the regular old snap traps until my ex brought a few humane traps over. I felt weird releasing swarms of mice into the woods, like some kind of messed up pied piper.

Would it be that hard to coat the glue traps with some sedative naturally occurring neurotoxin...
Steps on pad...falls asleep...dies.
Or even, steps on pad, falls into a coma and is removed from the location..
*shrug*
Edit: wasn't referring to the op doing this, but rather a company for humane extermination/removal.

Well the reason there is no kind of toxin is because of children and pets. In any case, those who are using a potentially dangerous trap shouldn't allow pets or children in the general area anyway. I've heard of dogs getting stuck on these things and getting injured too. With the exception of a cage trap, I don't think any trap is really "pet friendly".

I know killing the mouse doesn't seem like the solution if you are very animal friendly but rodents spread like crazy(as do other pests like cockroaches)! If you don't kill them you'll end up with an infestation and probably a condemned house or apartment. If you let them loose they'll just come back in... I mean hey they got in once didn't they? If you are really opposed to killing mice and such find the hole they are coming through and seal it. The only other problem is they could be coming in from outside piping that you can't seal. Thats the advice I got when we had a squirrel in our apartment.
