Turned in a resume to a clothing store
    #8793336 - 08/18/08 10:46 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

But a friend of mine has already told me that she wants to work there. I did not think about it when I made the resume and turned it in, I need a different job when fall comes around.

She thinks I am going get the position and she wont if I end up getting the job.

I already turned the resume in, talked to one of the managers, and she said she would call me for the interview.

I'm not sure what to do, surely some one has been in this situation before.

It's every man for himself these days. If she really wanted to work there she would have had her resume in already.

There is no guarantee they would hire your friend if your turned the position down is there? I don't mean to suggest being unthoughtful, but it seems to me to be a bad idea to turn down a job you obviously would enjoy in the hope that your friend gets the position.

You obviously wanted the job as well, and are qualified enough to get your foot in the door, I don't think it would be too noble to give up potential employment just because your friend wants it as well. It is after all a competitive market, and as they say...its nothing personal, just business.

First come first serve...and if you get hired you can put in a good word for her.

Higher end retail is fucking coke city. Something to think about. Not really a great environment.

Don't let her guilt you into throwing the interview. You have to eat too, dammit.

Seriously its not like high school when you don't go for the certain girl/boy because your friend says they already have a crush on them! The working world is based on survival. You work for money and not really for friends. And honestly MOTH is right, if you get hired you can put in a good word for her. Nothing is better to an employer than a good reference from an existing employee! That way they have one less hoop to jump through when checking references of the potential employee. Also encourage her to still turn in her resume... maybe they have more than one position open!
