Bugs in the cakes
    #8793252 - 08/19/08 12:29 AM (9 years, 6 months ago)

Ok so I had a very small fruiting chamber set up next to an a/c vent. It was closed up except for a few holes next to my prelate. A small fly got trapped in the chamber, I got it out but not soon enough. So soon after I found a maggot but only one feeding off of my cake. I took the cakes out sprayed everything down with peroxide and made sure all of my holes were covered with paper medical tape. Everything was going fine. I decided to upgrade my chamber, and dunked my cakes for about 25 hrs or so. Everything was looking really good. Well one of my cakes was ready to harvest, so I was checking out the one that was in the contaminated chamber, and it had about 15 or so little orange things on it. I took one off and squished it and it was a maggot. So I got rid of that one immediately. Sterilized my chamber. My question is: Is there anything I should do to prevent any kind of problem like this again? I really need some help here.

Yea if you live in a climate that you have to worry about parasitic insects, I'd say keep it closed and keep polyfill in the holes.
