Quitting smoking sucks

Ugh. I haven't had a cigarette in probably close to two weeks now (I've had drags here and there, but never a full one), and just found out I am really in a hole financially. Definitely the worst I've ever been.
I do, however, have $17 in my wallet right now, and spending $5 on a pack of cigarettes is starting to sound like an excellent idea. I just drank my last beer and have no ganja....
Bah! I want a cigarette!

You can stay clean. Save that money, save those lungs. Now that you've been down to smaller amounts of nicotine, how about cutting it off completely? It'd be for the best. Good luck!

Don't do it man. The longest I stayed off of cigs in the past 7 or 8 years was one month. If it wasn't for supportive friends denying me them every time I was feeling overwhelmed etc. then that time would have been much shorter. Try to remember why you quit. There has to be a reason. I actually had a sheet which had the negative effects of smoking and the positive effects you should notice after quitting. That did help a little. Buy some fruit with your five dollars instead. That should help with the cravings.

Ya, rounding day 2 (in a row, I've had a few days speckled with no drags) of zero nicotine. I was doing good until I found out how royally fucked I am. On top of my own shit, a friend borrowed me some money recently and said he probably wouldn't need it for awhile, but he just had 2 tires on his car blow out and needs some cash to fix it.
On top of all that I'm trying to woo this sweet ass chick. How's that gonna work when I'm broke as a mutha-fuckin joke and fiending for a cig?

A number of things:
1. I'd just smoked a carton in about a week. I NEVER do that, and it kinda scared me 2. I was broke 3. I was in the EU, and cigarettes were 5 euros for a pack of 17 4. The girl I'm chasing after said she couldn't date somebody who smoked
Basically in that order.

1, 2, and 3 are all excellent reasons. But you shouldn't have to change yourself for someone else, man.
Anyways, reason I asked was because as of late I've been getting increasingly suckered towards enjoying a cigarette or two once a week. The buzz is just deliciously rewarding, and yet I have some mild worries that it's gonna escalate to a few packs a day. How did your frequency of use slide into a carton per week?

Buy a bag of chewing tobacco for 2-3 bucks. It will provide enough nicotine to get you through, and is a lot cheaper than patches, gum or smokes. Also - you don't need a giant wad, nor do you have to chew it until brown juice floods your mouth. A few leaves will do the trick as nicotine travels readily through the mucous membrane, almost instantly in fact. I used it to knock down the jones and it really helped, and of course is too disgusting a habit to get hooked on in my case anyway.

Well as far as not having to change yourself, that's why it was more towards the bottom. She never said that to me directly, and I smoked in front of her all the time. Basically 1-3 were really good motivating factors for me, and I figured, what the hell, now's the time to do it and get some brownie points for it. Plus, I can see why a non-smoker wouldn't want to date a smoker.
That carton in a week thing was a bit of a fluke. It's not as though that was my regular habit. I bought a carton at a duty-free store for $30, and then drank every night of the following week. That's how I burned through it
I started a couple cigarettes a week, then maybe one a day, then you buy a pack so you don't feel like a mooch, and all of a sudden you're a smoker.

Surprisingly I've been doing pretty damn good about drinking and not smoking during these last 2 weeks. It helped I guess that the girl was constantly around, but now that she's out of town for a few days it just seems real easy to go and buy a pack. I should just go hang out with one of my smoker friends and get like a drag or 2...or maybe 3. That would satisfy me right now....

That's probably true.
However, lung cancer is later. Stress and withdrawal is now.

I like that quote. Probably not the best way to support his decision though.

I empathize with you brother. It has been a week with not so much as even a puff off of a cigarette. Made even harder by the fact that everyone I know smokes. Then compounded even more by the fact that the ex just came in town and seeing her made me feel like shit and really want one. I'm holding steady though. You should do the same. Your body and wallet will thank you later. That is what I keep telling myself. Good luck fighting the good fight.

I'm right there with you homie.
I haven't smoked in over a week or so.. I've been smoking for over ~13 years. It's not really that bad.. the mental addiction is the hardest part. I wish I had some bud to smoke.
Stay strong brotha!

It's not really "hard" per se... just every time I pass by the store I have the urge to buy some cigs. I smoked one last week on a whim.. after not smoking for 4 days.. and it didn't really do much for me, except make me question why the fuck I've been so fiendishly addicted to those things for the past 10+ years. It's more of a like, a mental comfort thing than anything else.. the act of smoking them. The actual physical withdrawal is like, almost nothing.. whatever. I just have to get over the mental/psychological addiction.. I figure if I can go a whole month without smoking one I will have won. They say it takes 21 days of consistency to break a habit forever and become hard-wired in that new mentality. So I'll just give myself an extra week on top of that.

Shit, that really helps that somebody I've personally met is going through the same thing. And ya, the physical withdrawal isn't that bad, I'm not even really that cranky, but I'm just so used to smoking a cigarette multiple times a day.
Sitting around at home, bored, what to do? Ponder life and have a smoke!
I hear ya on the wishing you had a bag of weed, though. That would really alleviate the hand to mouth fixation. I've taken up a bit of exercising to try and help take my mind off of it. I've found I can run a hell of a lot farther now, and I was lifting weights for a little bit while I had the facilities to do so.

I quit 2-3 years ago. Best thing I ever did for my body. I will never go back to cigs. But even now, this long into. Every once in a while i'll get the cigarette craving when I see someone smoking especially at a bar or something. I will still even dream of a cig every now and then. But nothing like the first 3 months. It's kinda something you have to stay persistent about and set the thought in stone that you aren't going to smoke anymore. Now, their just fucking disgusting and appalling to me.

It really depends on how bad you actually wanna quit. In the last 6 or 7 years i quit for 6 months. It proved to be a lot easier than i though, within about 2 weeks i was excited to have quit i felt refreshed, things smelled and tasted better. and i felt great.
I quit pretty much for the similar reasons you did vortex. I was at bonnaroo and was ecstatic that American Spirits were 30 bucks a carton. I smoked more than a pack a day and just so happened to be dating this guy who didn't smoke and was like kind of a health freak until you would put some sort of white powder in front of him. but he hated cigarettes so i quit. More for me than for him but he was an added reason after a while.
It is more mental than physical. it's good to use something to replace your cigarettes with. water, or chocolate. they say sugar helps calm cravings.
as for wooing this sweet ass chick. make the bitch some dinner and watch a movie!

lol yeah... those NY prices are absurd. $6-7 a pack? It doesn't help that I'm in the middle of VA, the average pack around here is about $2.50. Goddamn I need some weed

all my friends smoke, it sucks
when i've got a drink in me it's really hard. i never smoke cigarettes but there's always a joint with tobacco going around.
the only way i'm gonna manage to quit is to make a decision between weed and beer, and drop one of them for good.
i've done really well , i used to smoke a lot, now sometimes i don't smoke weed for a week or two, but as soon as i get a bag i sit and smoke through it in a night, i can't save weed, if it's sitting there i get all cypress hill

i'm not worried about weed either but it leads to a lot of situations where everyone is smoking joints and i'm sitting with a pipe. i can either be antisocial and not share or i can load everyone a pipe and bye-bye weed.
either that or hit the bong and then i smoke myself retarded while everyone else is still functional, lol
