Wisdom teeth
    #8791873 - 08/18/08 04:51 PM (10 years, 3 months ago)

When did you guys get your wisdom teeth pulled? Before or after they came in? One of my is coming in right now, the others are not. Any advice on how to go about the procedure would be appreciated.

Go to a dentist for an X-ray.  A lot of people's wisdom teeth come in impacted which means they're crooked as shit, sometimes they come in completely sideways.  If yours are going to be impacted the dentist will recommend that you have them removed before they come in and fuck your mouth and other teeth up. He'll refer you to an oral surgeon, hopefully one that will hook you up with an IV and a nitrous nose hose, then a nice months supply of percocet to help you out during the healing process.

Better to get it checked out sooner rather than later because if you hold off on it you'll probably end up in a lot of pain waiting around for an appointment with a surgeon.

I had mine removed a few weeks after they had completely come in but I was lucky because they came in perfectly in line with my other teeth.  Unfortunately there wasn't enough room on my jaw for all those teeth and the wisdom teeth blocked my mouth from opening all the way. It hurt pretty bad after a while and I couldn't wait to get them out.

I'm nearing 40 and I still have all 4 of mine

I have never had any issues, and I wonder if I will ever have to have them removed.

I had mine taken out at 14, when the first one was poking through, mine came in early.  Anyways, they were all 4 taken out at once, and it was before they were fully developed, the one poking through had a large root, the others were still pretty small, and came out easy.  he had to break the one poking through into 3 pieces to get it out...

peace

I'm 27 going on 28 and I have all 4 of mine.  I did have some dull aching pain when they were coming in, but I wasn't bothered enough to see the dentist.  They took x-rays and said they all look good.  I hope they stay that way.

Im currently in process of removing them.

yup best advise is to go see a dentist...
its better to wait until they come out naturally
then you'll get them pulled, after that you let a clot form by biting down on some goss>however its spelled...

just watch out for dry socket.

some peoples wisdom teeth come out already decayed

Thanks. I don't know if I'd rather get knocked out completely or just get nitrous.

I went the nitrous + local + jimmy buffet on headphones route, it was great...the pain was also minimal afterwards...

I got mine removed after they had all grown in (when I was 19 or 20).  They didn't give me nitrous or put me under, they just shot the areas chock-full of novocaine.

Hopefully yours grow in straight, I know sometimes they have to break the tooth and pull it out in pieces, which I hear hurts like a bitch afterwards.  Mine just popped right out though.  They didn't even write a script for pain pills (at first I thought that was crazy bullshit, but when the novocaine wore off I realized pain pills really weren't necessary)

Just getting a local anesthetic must have sucked. Your mouth must have been numb for a day afterwards. No thanks.

i have all of my wisdom teeth in.

if you have enough room in your mouth you don't need to worry about taking them out.

Like many have said, a regular visit cycle to the dentist will give you x-rays and tell you if they need to come out.

I didn't really listen to my dentist and they started hurting after awhile. But then I just got them pulled by a surgeon. Laughing gas is fun. Until you pass out after about two minutes. Your cheeks will be puffy for awhile but it's cool.

get them pulled after the teeth are fully grown, if possible depending on your mouth alignment and spacing.

further grown teeth are easy to extract and leave less damage in the jaw bone when they come out.

i waited until 25 yrs old, mine came out easy peasy...  i got drugs

I had mine pulled when I was 17. Was knocked out for the whole procedure because I had 6 plus a little nub and they were all crooked and fucked up. Listen to what they tell you about not sucking on a straw for at least 2 weeks. I lost my clots and got dry socket. The worst fucking pain ever. The vicodin they gave me wouldn't cut through it.
