wow no one said to pasteurize the conventional way. hydrate your coir load into pillow case put in big pot. fill water over the pillow case throw a rock on top of that to keep the pillow case submerged. cook for 1 1/2 hours at 160 degrees. then let drip dry to the right temp and field compasity. that is what i do and i have had minimal problems.

Some pet stores, yes, carry it.
I have a local pet smart and they don't carry it, although I've heard of other Pet Smarts carrying it. A local specialty reptile/fish store does carry it for me.
You can also check hydro grow stores (if available) or even Brewer shops...as they sometimes cross over a little into 'other' hobbies.
Hope it helps.

I don't really even pasteurize the coir, and have still no contam problems yet. Just pour a gallon of boiling water in with the brick, that's it. Make sure it's field capacity you might need to squeeze or add more water, usually i have to add more.

My method (no problems to date):
Place brick of coir in large bucket. Fill up with garden hose water. Once fully saturated, break down clumps using my hands. Spread out evenly over a large baking pan. Place in bottom rack of oven. Heat to 185 degree Fahrenheit for 90 minutes. Let cool in oven. It will be soaking wet at this point. (In a clean environment) Take handfuls at the time and squeeze them to field capacity. Place in 1 gallon ziplock bag. Mix in spawn. Shake to mix it all up. Pour level into tray. Cover and incubate!

All you need to do with coir is kill off the mold spores.
'Proper' pasteurization isn't necessary as long as the coir is exposed to temps at or above 140F for several minutes. There is no need to worry about bacteria, just mold spores.
Any method the grower chooses to accomplish the above is fine. RR

It looks like Peterthinks got it bang on.
Homehardware is the way to go...given you have one nearby. That way you can drink your cranberry & vodka and they won't think twice about your 10 foot long gecko.
