Only yesterday I found Amanitas in Rhode Island, now I might have found something else like pan subb! I was walking to the mailbox at my apartment and I found these, tell me what you think:

Habitat:
Grass/soil, at my apartment complex, in Rhode Island

Gills:
Not attached to stem, hang below cap, brown/dark grey

Stem:
Solid, not very thin, vertical striations, white/yellowish, 3-4 cm long, 1/2 cm diameter

Cap:
2 1/2-3 cm diameter, smooth and dry, tan, rounded nipple, overall spherical shape

Spore print color:
Not finished, but looks grey/purple

Bruising:
None observed

Other information:
It looks like there might be some kind of hairy substance attached to the gills, it might be the leaves decomposing under it though.

Cortinarius. That hairy stuff on the gills is what's left of the cortina, a partial veil characteristic of the genus. It's rusty brown colored because of the spores that have collected on it.

None of the Cortinarius are active, and none should be eaten.

Happy mushrooming!
