I cannot see the pic..

dont worry about checking the PH of your casing, though.. if you WANT to, you can use an electronic PH tester, or, before you use your casing, run water through it and use a liquid ph kit to test the run-off water from the casing..

if you are using a 50/50 verm/peat casing, then just follow any of the recipe's in the cultivation section of the site.. they will tell you how to measure out the additives to change the PH where it needs to be for the amount of casing you will be preparing..

if you are using 100% vermiculite, then this will not be an issue..

but try and repost that pic so we can see what you are working with..

it is a liquid ph test.
your saying to run water through the casing,
tap water? or maybe soak the casing for a while and then test it?
i tried to squeeze some water but it came out dark and the ph test its all about changing colors.

thanx

yeah.. just run the tap water through the casing, and the first few drips are the ones you should use with your test kit.. that kit will work fine.. I use liquid kits for hydro all the time.. Im too cheap to buy a digi.. haha

I dont what the actual ratio is.. you would have to search for that.. I never added anything to a 50/50 before..

depending on where you live, tap water will be fine, because it has a neutral Ph of 7 out of the tap..

you don't add anything to the 50\50? just verm and peat?
with good results?
i wanted to get one of the digi ph testers but read many people saying there not accurate.

well, for the digi's, it depends on brand.. its always best to test the moisture though..

when I used to use 50/50, all I did was mix it and pasteurize it.. I never added oyster shell or anything like that to it.. I had good results for a while, but then I switched to straight vermiculite for many reasons..

Digital PH testers are only good if you clean the tips before each use.
I use a 3m pad. This will also aplly to a ppm tester as well.
You can buy PH test solution, 7ph is common.
Use the ph test solution and see what the variants is.

i'll get some litmus somewhere.
isn't 50\50 with no calcium is a open door for contams?

only if you dont pasteurize your casing mix and you are hella dirty when working with your cultures... I have used it, and it worked just fine.. every once in a while a contam would arise, but that is because of nutrient content in the peat.. that is why you change the ph.. the peat is what attracts contams..
