Obama: 'I will win'
    #8790194 - 08/18/08 10:11 AM (15 years, 7 months ago)

A confident Barack Obama raised an extraordinary $7.8 million Sunday at three California fundraisers, most if it in large checks to a Democratic Party committee.

“I will win. Don’t worry about that,” he said to the crowd of about 1,300 at his third event of the evening, according to the pool report.

He was warmly received by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who called him "a leader that God has blessed us with at this time."

Wait, what's the point here?

Does McCain not think he's going to win?

We all know Pelosi is crazy, you don't have to tell me twice.

Scary thought, true, but slightly less scary than four more years of Bushian policies that McCain has embraced to the hilt, contrary to the views and positions of moderation that made him so respectable in the past.

All the good options were successfully ousted by the media/political/economic infrastructure months ago in the earliest primary stages.

Still, if McCain does win, maybe we'll get to catch a glimpse of Cindy's titties??

EDIT: Though I will give you that the less-religious posture of McCain is definitely on his side in my book, though not for his base. This doesn't nearly as much coverage as you would think from the fanatical-right Christian groups. :strokebeard:

No Mr. Obama, I will win.

I could go so far as saying I have already won.  But that's because the game I'm playing isn't one you are trying to win, but it is the one you'd like everyone to think you're playing.

It's not the presidency, btw.  If Obama wins the presidency, then this game, he indeed, will have lost.

Liberty is in the mind.

I disagree.  Same coin, opposite side.  Socialism leads to police state, and police state leads to socialism.

I would have thought a police state leads to fascism

socialism invariably leads to national socialism, aka fascism.

National Socialism is not socialism. It's the name Hitler chose in order to get support from the working class and the unions.. When he rose to the top of the party he killed all the socialists (in events such as the Night of the Long Knives) and outlawed unions. Hitler was ardently anti-communist, and the Nazi party was entirely nationalistic (fascist) and not in the slightest bit socialist.

No doubt Hitler was anti-communist.  He was a still a statist, and his 'socialism' was one of nationalistic/racial collectivism.  So yeah, 'national socialism' is a kind of doublethink, not being socialist, but it's still collectivism.  My point was that collectivism fosters the conditions which will lead to fascism, primarily fueled by nationalism.

Yes, I agree with that to some extent. I'm strongly opposed to patriotism because it leads to nationalism, which leads to fascism. We should be wary of anyone who holds the State up on any kind of pedestal.

I don't agree that patriotism is bad on an elementary level. In many ways, patriotism can be a very selfish, individual thing. For example, I want my country to succeed and do the right things because what my country does affects me on a personal level and reflects on me on in that same way.

Super-patriotism, on the other hand, is an awful thing. Any  Hobbesian view that what the state does is what is morally right is unacceptable.

Bush said to James Robinson: 'I feel like God wants me to run for President. I can't explain it, but I sense my country is going to need me. Something is going to happen... I know it won't be easy on me or my family, but God wants me to do it.'

COLMES: Is George W. Bush God's choice for president?

ROBERTSON: I think, you know, I said it on another show, and I'll say it again. The Chinese emperor used to say, does he have the favor of heaven, and I think George Bush has the favor of heaven.

He's a godly man. He prays on a daily basis. He wants to do what's right before the Lord, and I think God has honored him. And I think this second victory --

COLMES: When you say he's got the favor of heaven, are you implying that that -- he is God's choice and that God preferred him over John Kerry?

ROBERTSON: Obviously, if you think the Lord rules in the affairs of men, he did because he sure won.
