Music for video game (MUSIC)

Hello!
I wish to someday compose music for RPGs.

This is something I composed and recorded with the idea that it might be used for a village or town of some sort.
It is a MIDI, just to let you know beforehand.

Any feedback is appreciated! Oh, and it is meant to loop over and over.

The next Nobuo Uematsu.

Cool stuff, I like. I could see myself walking around a town in an RPG with that playing. Good job

Alright, here's another one...

Not too sure about the application of this one.
Could be the title screen music, could be an icy cave, could be a character theme.

EDIT: Ugh, seems like I put a bit too much reverb on this one... and I'm too lazy to fix it and upload it again right now :tongue2:

The new guy that square has, Takeharu Ishimoto is pretty amazing too.  Nobuo doesn't really work for square anymore.  Look up pretty much any music from Final Fantasy VII:  Crisis Core and You'll see what I mean about Takeharu.  Here is a link of all the downloads of Crisis Core's music.  Some must haves are "The Price of Freedom", "Why", and of course..if you want to shed totally legit man tears Aeriths theme.. "A Flower Blooming in the Slums"

Edit:  Dont get me wrong..of all my musical influences Nobuo is one of the main ones for me..wow..just wow.

Yes, yes, I know he does not work for Square anymore. And I agree, the new guy is great!
Well, I think I'll upload some more. If anyone wants to take a listen and critique it would be appreciated
(This is the theme-01 above but with less reverb)

Interesting music.  Definitely room for improvement as far as pushing those feelings.  You should start making a series of tracks that all have very clear cut feelings.  Start the track with a scene or feeling in mind, and follow it up.

To me, they all sounded very similar, except for theme6, which sounded very exotic (I also liked the dynamics and final march.)

I do contract music work for video games, and I've got a couple titles under my belt, and I'll tell you: The industry is expanding enormously and game audio is expanding right along with that.  you can make a living off of it, just as long as you've got that love and you work your fucking ass off.

Good luck.  Not sure if you checked out the old composition contests...check my signature.

Haven't heard this new guy, but no one can touch Nubuo.

wiki says he's split from square but he still does freelance work, so I'd consider that still working with square  Who knows what to believe on wiki, though.

Yep, definitely sounds like rpg music.  Stick with it and you might get a job.

how can you have a game audio thread without anyone mentioning Koji Kondo?

Just because Nobuo has sold more albums and is more popular/famous... i mean come on, the compositional quality of kondo is far superior.
Also, to create such vivid compositions under such constraints and limitations as 8 and 16 bit audio... many of these other composers never came into their style until they were allowed 16 stereo channels with cd quality sounds....
Kondo composed the worlds most memorable game soundtracks while mostly being limited to 6 mono channels of 16 bit audio.
Not only were his compositions unique and amazing, he revolutionized and personally helped shape the evolution of the importance of audio in video games.

in fact, the entire nintendo score crew are responsible for the majority of audio advancements in gaming due to composers having as much to do with the notes as the implementation via electronics and memory capabilities to deliver said audio.

so give it up to koji kondo and hirokazu tanaka for super mario brothers, zelda and metroid (including a shitload of other amazingly popular titles).

Probably because I created this thread to share my music, not to specifically discuss composers

That being said, you are correctamundo.
