what temperature does psylocibin break down at?

I've heard varying things like 120 degrees farenheit, 135, and even 400 degrees, so what is the actual true answer?

I've looked all over here and all over mycotopia and keep getting conflicting answers :frown:

It certainly doesn't break down much at temperatures at or below boiling, because it's common to boil mushrooms into tea.  Above that temperature, I don't think anyone has a true answer.  I've cooked cubes on the BBQ grill before with little to no loss.

I have researched this subject somewhat, and from what I gather, temperature doesn't have much effect on psilocybin.
Oxidization is more of a problem. I guess now the question is, what temperature causes the most oxidization? Or do higher temperatures increase oxidization? It seems like they would. For drying purposes though, i don't think the temperature would significantly impact the potency based on the short amount of time they are heated.

It would probably be better if you could charge the dessication chamber with an inert gas, but who has the time for all that :smile:


I know making tea at 100c doesn't seem to affect quality.
