reviving an old strain
    #8786549 - 08/17/08 02:27 PM (9 years, 9 months ago)

i've been using lc thats about a year old and has been in the hottest of days and the coldest of nights. i realize that is why my jars take almost a month to grow. now the question is, is there anyway to revitalize it? say using a fully colonized jar and making lc out of that?
or should i just stop and buy new spores? even my poo tubs get contaminated because the myc is to week to grow. any help would be much appreciated

If you can still get something to fruit from it I'd make a print and just start over.
You could also try adding some of the old LC to a new clean mix of LC solution.
It may have just run out of food and doesn't have enough energy stored or left in the water to colonize the jars quickly.
30 CC honey to 600 CC water, PC for 15 min at 15 PSI. let cool, inject some old solution into it.

yes it probibly degraded, but the above posters advice of making it re-LC or fruiting one and cloning and/or printing it would probibly revitalize the strain. If you inject the old LC into a fresh LC jar then what lives of the Myc will reproduce in the new LC and your new LC will be strong and vibrant. Hypothetically anyway.

In a liquid measuring cup, what would be a good measure of honey to water ratio? I would rather preferably not use a 10 cc syringe to measure that out

One tablespoon is 15 ml.

Use 2 tablespoons honey to 600 ML hot water (2 and 1/5th cups).

I just made some up yesterday and it's already growing, it's a good mix.

For further info look at the drop down menu at the top left side of your screen under the Shroomery logo, Mushroom Info---Grow Mushrooms---Mycelium culture.

The common ratio for it is 4% honey, 95.9% water and .1% love (easily substitutable with water)

I used a 9 month old LC and found it colonised grain fine but fruits were few, small and had no spores. I'll be interested to hear if you can revitalise your old LC in a new LC. If you  can go back to spores I would.

not beyond .9% anymore than that will give you an excessive water to love ratio.
