Why is my jar colonizing so slow.. 2 weeks, dime sized mycelium.
    #8765811 - 08/12/08 11:35 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

1 of the 4 jars i inoculated is growing mycelium but it's growing very slow.

It's been about 2 weeks and it barley has a dime sized mycelium spot under one of the inoculation points.

Anyone know why my jar is colonizing so slow?

Your substrate is probably too wet. It's an easy mistake to make when you're first starting. Not much you can do now aside from hope that it'll colonize alright without growing contaminants.

I'll give you the same advice I've gotten on my slow colonization, if you haven't removed the foil after inoculation, do so, to allow for better gas exchange. Also, try turning the jars upside down for a couple of days.

It has worked great for my 5 jars, you can check my sig to see their progress.

i dont think gas exchange has anything to do with it i think it has to do with moister content because there are many many cases of no gas exchange that still fruted and colonized dont take it the wrong way plz im not trying to call you a liar after all i just started mycologey about 3 weeks ago

that really doesnt do anything.. its kind of a myth.. I have seen a few threads where people did a comparison and it did nothing...

just my thought.. if its growing slow, its usually moisture content or contam..

well it dosen't even matter now because i cut the mycelium out and put it in an LC. Hopefully it'll grow without contams.

And I ordered 2 more syringes. I dont know what strains. It's the 2 for 1 deal from lilshopofspores so the strains i get are random.

So these jars are screwed i guess you can say. BOMBED!

We will continue this thread with the LC.

No offense taken, just giving the same advice that had been given to me.
