aborts or sumthing else?

a FOAF just havested the first flush from un unknown strain (he did not lable) but there might be a problem. he had two trays going at the same time, one of them pinned a day before the other (2 differnt strains) and went though a normal flush. now the other seemed to be growing at a much slower pace. the first one is now in its second flush and the other still is growing, or so he thought. when he harvested them it seemed to him that all of his little freinds aborted, but some of them where 5-7 inches long. when he broke open the stems on these big ones they where a dark blue almost black on the inside like an abort left on the casing to long. now his question... is it possible for the whole flush to abort but some of them still grow in a sum what of an aborted state? very few veils broke but they still grew, just not at a normal speed. or is it possible for it to have sum sort of bacteria contam? it does not smell funny. almost all the mushrooms that where not clearly aborts had a very strong blueing to the caps but never fully developed or tured black like an abort... what is going on???

Its a tough question to answer....
The fact that you had 2 trays and one fruited perfectly, means your conditions are right, so the answer is one of two things:

1/ Contamination.
2/ Poor strain.

I would go with the first one.
