boards of canada
    #8783287 - 08/16/08 06:10 PM (15 years, 7 months ago)

ok, so i've heard some chit chat about boards of canada.. sometimes when aphex twin is mentioned...  i'm a big fan of aphex twin, but i put off looking into boards of canada because i thought they had a dumbass band name...

but, i just picked up "music has the right to children"

and i must admit i'm really diggin' it.  a couple of my favorite songs on the album so far are "aquarius" and "turquoise hexagon sun"

so if there are any tracks on this album that you love and think i shouldn't have skipped over, let me know.

and also if it's not too much to ask, recommend some of their other albums or maybe even other artists or groups.

"The Campfire Headphase" is my favorite Boards of Canada album. I'd list a couple favorite tracks but its one of those albums that are just extremely amazing in their entirety.

well... i picked up the campfire headphase and i'm a few tracks into it right now.

nice n mellow, though nothing has really jumped out at me yet.  which could either be a good or bad sign.  some of my favorite albums have taken a few listens to digest.

thanks for the other recommendations.  i'll check 'em out when i get a chance.

Great stuff, I love the creepy nostalgic feeling of their music.

Turquoise Hexagon Sun is one of my favorites off 'Music has the right' too. My other is probably Rue the Whirl.

Along with Geogaddi check out the 'Beautiful Place' EP, it's very good. Also the Hi Scores EP, most of the songs are on other releases already....but the last song is not, and is a key BoC tune

And campfire headphase...haven't really listed to anything but Dayvan Cowboy, mainly because I've read BoC fell off a bit, as many artists do as time and releases progress. It's supposedly not the same as earlier stuff...but that might not necessarily mean the quality is less, I don't know.

if you get a chance do you think you can upload a song or two?  namely this "key" tune you speak of.

I know of dozens of artists that sound kind of like BoC and are just as good but there are dozens of BoC threads and none about the others.

I wonder if it's chance word of mouth or there's something special about BoC that makes people talk about it.

Maybe it's just better promotion. :ohwell:

Dayvan Cowboy is their best song, IMO.

I've always been partial to Geogaddi over Music Has the Right To Children.. Campfire Headphase is really awesome too though, I don't like it as much as the other two.  Not the same sort of feel to it.

campfire headphase reminds me of opiates =/ because of all the times i listened to it couch locked with roxy and countless blunts in my system. good times, but definitely have moved on from that. still one of my favorite albums of all time, definitely in my top ten.

twoism is great as well.

if you like boards, i feel like youll also like:

Tycho (A Circular Reeducation)
Lemon Jelly
Unkle
Kelpe
Tipper
Emancipator (Black lake, When I go)
The Cinematic Orchestra
Biosphere
Black Moth Super Rainbow
Carbon Based Lifeforms
Bluetech

and one of my current favorites - Bonobo (check out the album Black Sands)

I put some especially special songs in parenthesis

Geogaddi is my favorite album by them, no question. I like how "dark" it is. For some reason it tends to be their least popular album (not really sure why). I love it though, my favorite song is Alpha & Omega.
