Substrate transfer
    #8768315 - 08/13/08 01:42 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

Hey, sorry I've moderately read up on mushroom cultivation but I'm still pretty ignorant on the subject, sorry if that bothers some of you.  Anyway, I'm kind of in a hurry to get out of the house and wanted to ask this question before I leave.  Mushrooms are growing in a plastic grow bag that has an air filter patch attatched...The mushrooms are growing more frequently on the sides but growing much more efficiently on the top of the cake.  The ones growing on the side become bruised and don't really take off like the other ones.  I was wondering if I should take my cake out of the bag and place it in a big plastic container that wouldn't hinder growth as much.

Thanks so fucking much.  Once again, sorry if my ignorance offends anybody.

what you want is a shotgun fruiting chamber.. a box with lots of little holes in it and some perlite to keep the humidity high.. you will have to read up on that

Thank you very much.

So if I take this casing (mushrooms growing on a brick of mycelium covered compost) and place it in a plastic tub that has a layer of perlite in the bottom, then it should be fine? Thanks for the help.

Also, once I pick the first flush off, can I break up this brick of mycelium covered compost and add it to a plastic tub filled with compost/perlite, to spread the mycelium network to the entire tub?  Sorry I am not well educated in mycology, I bought a mushroom grow kit so I didn't have to research anything, but I plan on progressing to a better technique once I get this first flush.

mushrooms want fresh air.. so don't forget to punch a bunch of little holes..

I wouldn't place substrate directly on perlite.. put some foil in between or something

try the searchfunction for "monotub" if you want the use the entire tub
