Put it on some foil
Use a toilet paper roll as a funnel, rather put it so it surrounds the dmt stuff then wrap the foil around it, rubber band it so it sticks
Use a straw to inhale the smoke as I freebase (can the lighter be touching the tin foil?

get lightbulb and take the black ceramic piece out of the end CAREFULLY with a hammer, once you have it out take some table salt and put it the buld and swirl it around to get all that white coating that comes in a bulb off then dump out the salt put in yer dmt to heat it up put a straw threw the opening and bam there you have a good freebase pipe.

if u want to smoke just the dmt i would designate a pipe just for that. u can use a glass piece thats for weed ike a crack pipe...actually more like a meth pipe....but then u will have to watch out if u just wanna smke some weed out of it cuz the dmt resin will grab ya by the boo boo wen u arent expecting it.

steel wool is a great thing to use in whatever pipe you are using (aside from freebasing it)
Freebasing it is tricky, and takes practice. If you are over 21, or have someone who is, i'd suggest making a "machine". You just need a 50ml single serving size bottle of hennesy.
Here's a picture of mine, they are very easy to make. Just drill a hole in the bottom, and stuff the neck with steel wool (choreboy brand works best) Melt the dmt into the steel wool, and you are ready to go. Just smoke it like you would anything else. The steel wool dissipates the heat evenly and instantly, making vaporizing very easy, no skill involved really.
Here are instructions on making it.
It's not meth, smoking it off foil is not the best method. I would not advise ever smoking anything off foil.

Anyway, I bought a glass piece for crack and whatnot, s I guess I'll sprinkle the dmt in the chamber, put the flame underneath the bowl (how far should the flame be, should I rotate the bowl?) and get high

Sounds like you're talking about a meth-type pipe. With crack you want a direct flame.
Is it just like a glass bulb, with a small hole, and a short chamber (the end of which you would smoke from...)?
Those work, but for some WEIRD reason, when I tried it, I found that vaporizing seemed more harsh, and harder for me to get a lot at once.
Using a glass "crack stem" with the steel wool (similar to "the machine," but a longer, thinner chamber.) I melted the stuff into the wool just a bit, then applied the flame, like I would if I were smoking crack.
HUGE hits, less harsh (why?), and was easier for me.

With the direct flame you're burning some shit off. the crack method is good, but i've seen people suck the steel wool straight through

If they can suck the wool through, it's not being done right. The steel wool plug should be fairly tightly fitted to the stem.
Tight enough so it's completely immobile without using a fair amount of force, but still just loose enough so that air passes easily through the stem.
