It's all in good fun anyway. No offense meant. None taken.

The so called calci-sand reptile litter (or whatever) this post in part started withn is probably a very - very low grade form of diatomite & clays. Some cheap kitty litter is produced from playa lake deposits. Meaning -- certain dry - evaporated - lake beds.

Like those around Christmas Valley Oregon, Reno Nevada & San Deigo California where some brands of kitty litter & a oil - chemical spill absorbant litter called Oil/Dry are produced.

That stuff usualy consists of semi bentonite type clays (swelling & absorbant) eroded from the area & fossil diatoms that were in the former lakes water - naturaly.

The calci-sand doesn't have any clay, it's pure calcium carbonate. Here is a link to Calci-Sand . I've actually tried it as a buffer in a casing, but it didn't work that well. The granules don't seem to dissolve at all. It might work if one was to use something to smash the granules into powder.

I've decided not to go for my new recipe after all since I found hydrated lime so I will just do a 50/50+ casing with calci-sand instead of oyster shell. By the way Stamets casing mixture calls for gypsum, I don't know how well it works but thats where I got the idea from. In the near future I will decide to give this mixture a whack.
