I bet that fungus has seen more of Australia than I have...

Where did you get your seed from?

I reckon! It's a well travelled fungus.

The rye is from a health food store (I'll step in for Juke while he's  not here:lol:). Really cheap too, cheaper than from the feed store I checked out for it.

I think Juke just got it as rye from the health food store. When I asked at the feed store it was bizarrely call "rye corn" of all things.

yeah the health food store gets it for me its called killiara organic whole grain rye

I use 10 heaped teaspoon fulls to about enough to make 10 jars so it works out 1 heaped teaspoon for each jar
I add the coffee grounds in when I simmer it, after the soak fresh out of the packet (not spent) when it simmers IMO the coffee goes in the grain a little then after the simmer I strain and rinse for about 20 seconds, so the grounds are now spent IMO if that makes any sense what so ever lol

I think you'd find them difficult to eat fresh. They're VERY bitter. That was my conclusion after a tiny nibble. I'd go with dry, powdered in tea. Unless there's a preparation for fresh which gets rid of the taste.

The bitter or rancid taste usually indicates they were contaminated with a bit of bacteria.  The nasty taste should go away when dried.  Normally, fresh sclerotia is fairly pleasant to eat.  Far more pleasant to get down than cubes for sure.

Adding coffee to grains for sclerotia definitely aids in sclerotia production.  I usually hydrate the grains in weak coffee.  I always laugh when I see posts where someone says it takes three months to get stones.  Use coffee and reduce that time by 75% or more.

Sure does, I use jasper coffee it's a very expensive ground coffee bean, but I'm lucky enough to get it for free, I have also been soaking my grains in my left over juice from pasteurizing my manure, that seems to work the same, but its a little more ugly to work with, after all it is poo juice lol but I don't mind anything for the mushrooms
