3 days after my jar to jar transfer and...
    #8748513 - 08/09/08 11:49 AM (15 years, 6 months ago)

So far everything looks beautiful!  Out of that last batch of jars that didn't fully colonize, I had one batch of brain/brf/verm that was fully colonized, but the tricky thing is, I couldn't get it broken up inside of the jar, so I constructed a glovebox, sanitized everything, and took all the precautions.

I then took the cake out of the jar, and had it over a pan (all in the glovebox) incase any parts fall I could collect them w/o worry of contamination as much.  I broke it up and transferred it to 7 quart jars, then wiped the lips of the lids w/ 70% iso, and resealed them.

Three days has past, and I've got beautiful results.  I'm surprised, I was expecting some contamination, considering I handled the cake (even though I used rubbergloves which I then sprayed and wiped w/ 91% iso and let evaporate).

Here are the jars, the first three on the left are wheat, the center is a mix of wheat and oat, and the three on the right are oat.

All the Jars

Wheat

Oat

Mix of Oat and Wheat

I'm quite excited.  I also did some work w/ the jars that didn't fully colonize, I tore off the non colonized substrate and cased it in a small disposable bread baking pan.  Tiny bits of white are barely poking up through the 70/30 verm/coir mix.

Nice!  Keep us posted on your progress.

Mere cleanliness (bordering on sterility) OUGHT to get you through.  Time will tell!  Good luck!

Jars are looking awesome!

I noticed you have a water-cooled PC in the first pic ... what are the specs on your rig?

Great news.  I popped my first casing into the FC today!

I'll get a pic of the jars as well, as they've even grown.

EDIT:

Photos of the jars.  This is day 4.

The oats are taking off faster than the wheat, without question.  So I've found my preferred grain.  (it's about 50cents per pound of oats here).  I'll do a test w/ barley in a few weeks to see how oats and barley compare.

I shook one of the wheat jars up (the one with grains sticking to the side and myc growing all over it), just to see how quickly it will now colonize.

Not 100% certain, but I DON'T think that is possible, or what occurred here.  G2G innoculating jars were STALLED, not contaminated, IIRC.

AFAIK, you cannot transfer away contams G2G.  Or if you do, it is 1:1000 and you were the lucky one!  I'll defer to the OP for further clarification on what he did.
