My Peruvian Torch is growing it's first pup. It is now almost an inch tall and growing out of the base. Soon the pup will start growing into the path of many mature 4" spines an will become impaled, and the pups small spines will start growing into the flesh of the main plant. Should I cut off the spines in the area around the pup, or should I leave it alone and let the plant deal with the problem naturally?
I've always just let nature takes its course, she knows best:) When my peru started to pup I let it go and it pushed the spines out of the way without and problems. My Tr. grandiflourous has about 8 pups and they all push the spines out of the way without injury to the pups. I would say leave things the way they are and you'll be fine.
