I'm pretty sure the serious bonehead move was consenting to a search. That's just plain stupid. Even if you don't think you have drugs in the car, it's simply not worth the risk.

You have the right not to consent to a search. Use it or lose it.

Scare tactics, i got arrested once when i lived in Cali and the officers who raided my buddies house told me the same thing and also said if i didn't take a piss test they would take me to jail and put a catheter in my dick to make sure i pissed. Nothing ever happened with that incident.
