Reservoir
    #8528396 - 06/15/08 10:33 PM (15 years, 8 months ago)

I have been experimenting recently in the creation of a 10 gallon water reservoir.  The setup is simple, utilizing no pumps or electricity, but relies on pressure.  It is thus important to ensure everything is airtight.(Gorilla glue, and silicon are your friend)

I created a 10 Gal. reservoir from a walmart garbage can.  For a lid a piece of plexi glass was cut to size and gorilla glued onto the top.  4 two pound bricks were placed upon the plexi glass for the glue to set, after the glue had set the outside rim was coated heavily in silicon.

Water will flow from the reservoir into the cool-mist as long as the air tube(from the top of the reservoir to the full line on the cool mist) is open to air.  After water reaches the air tube, pressure will stop the continued flow of water.

For a fully enclosed gh with a coolmist piped in, one may find that adding one of these to the opposite end as the intake will seriously help reduce pressure buildup and strain on the poor weak coolmist motor, while also dramatically improving fae without cutting polyfill stuffed slits all over the damn thing.  (That looks suspicious :smirk:)

Changing the cool mist is clearly the most time demanding aspect of maintaining a fruiting chamber, this for approx 30 bucks permanently eliminates this demand.  If you search the forums, there are a variety of other topics on making a reservoir involving float switches/pumps, etc.

right,  maybe it's just me but it's not that big of a deal to dump some more water into a cool mist every day or every other day.

i hope your using your cool mist for a martha and not a shotgun or a monotub.

The problem I see with this setup is the water becoming stagnant and shit starts to grow in it, which I would think would not be a good thing....

As long as the water is moving reguarly this won't be a problem.

Updated to have less connections, greater capacity and explains the system used to refill(funnel + cork).

It really is quite efficient and simple.

Just how often do you have to refill your cool mist? I gota agree with blood4blood on this, how much time does this really save? I suppose I should not talk though this would have been handy when I was younger living at home and had to grow 15 miles away at my incompetent friends house because his mom thought it was damn cool. He did not really take care of shit this would have helped if I also had a cool-mist :P.

Well I have an ultrasonic dropped into my cool-mist, and without the reservoir it was about every 18 hours.  However currently I only have to fill this reservoir twice a month.(Done by garden hose connected to faucet.)

You should be cleaning out the tank on a humidifier every 48 hours anyway.  I see no benefit to a large tank.  It will get slimy as hell if you try to run it for two weeks without cleaning.

I have been utilizing an item similar as seen on this thread:
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6341279#6341279

I'm approaching day 60 for the reservoir and I have no noticeable(to the touch) slime.  Has not seemed to negatively influence mushroom growth rates.

Furthermore I believe adding some bactericidal water of some form should be practiced regularly with all humidifiers.

Yes the entire water reservoir is a luxury item, but a luxury that I am willing to pay for.

Utilizing the entire above system, I have had not a single contamination problem, or noticeable slime buildup in the reservoir.(to the touch, I don't have a microscope).  I know its old and most people find this process to be a waste of time, however for those who find themselves out of town commonly for extended periods of time(2 weeks), can still maintain such a hobby.
