Casing ready to birth? (PIC)
    #873116 - 09/09/02 07:56 PM (16 years, 15 days ago)

Hi, This is a casing of two 1 pint tasmanian brf/verm cakes, cased with 50/50+ about 4 days ago. How much longer should I wait til I put it in my terrarium?

Thanks for your help.

If I birth now would I actually get a much lower yield than if I patched and allowed the casing to colonise more evenly, then birthed?

If it were me, I would birth now. I don't think it matters that much.

Birth it now - its more than ready. You could patch the areas where mycelia is showing so that you can get an even pin set, but often with cubensis they pin everywhere at the same time anyway...
Good work and trust me - Tassies are THE shit!!

you'd likely get less. It's wasting energy with vegetative growth.

Next time, birth it as soon as you see let's say two tiny dots of mycelium on your casing material. The rest should follow. I have gulf coasts and their mycelium is very aggressive. Even if I patch, the mycelium comes out like crazy. So, I tried to let it be... and no matter how, patch or not, flushes are sometimes large sometimes smaller, but always acceptable.

Mushrooms have their mysterious ways ,

Make sure that anytime you patch, to use sterile measures to limit contamination.Either a oven method or microwave method. I learned the hard way on this one, thought I'd pass it along.
