Rye question
    #8727408 - 08/05/08 01:34 AM (15 years, 7 months ago)

Im going to be starting an outdoor grow patch with P. cubensis. I was wondering if rye is any good for P. cu. According to the outdoor tek I read Im going to have to crumble a couple cakes up in the making of my patch. It seems like rye would be the easiest to do this with. I just want to make sure that theres nothing I should worry about.

Personally i would use a straw dung mixture. The rye i think would not let proper drainage happen. All of the outdoor patches i've made had a mix of the 2. Water drainage is really important in an outdoor patch, in my opinion. I've had many patches lost due to the lack of proper drainage... One heavy rainfall is all it could take. If you cant get dung, i would use a lot of straw and a lot of rye, of course you would have to simmer the rye first...... :goodluck:

That leads me to another question. You said that you've lost a patch due to drainage. The outdoor tek that I read said to put the first layer of spawn directly on the ground. It drainage is important should I put a layer of straw down first. Or maybe you could just give me your layering method. Thanks a bunch

My best outdoor patches had a HEAVY layer of straw at the bottom. So i would layer heavy straw at the bottom/spawn/straw-dung mix/spawn/straw-dung.... until it was full... some of my patches were huge. I've actually found that huge is definatly not always good. So i started making 2x2x1 1 is the depth, patches, and got 1/4 pound (dry) flushes from them. The bigger ones just didnt seem to perform like the smaller ones. Thats just my experience. Good luck!
