Along with Pink Flyod Tool is some of the best music for a trip I've found.
I'm on a mission to find this.
Not quite in the same genre (not nearly as hard), but there's a band called Porcupine Tree that is unbelievable for any psychedelic. Salvia especially...
They have an album called Voyage 34 that is entirely instrumental music made for LSD, with occasional LSD recordings in the background. There's a long bit with a girl describing her trip, the visuals and her senses all intertwined. And the sounds just resonate between your ears, sober. Tripping its a whole new ballgame.

i think too heavy would be death metal.
Where did you hear this? I've heard Maynard say "I took too much acid in high school", probably joking, I've never read/seen/listened to anything that would lead me to believe Maynard received his acid from Leary.
And yes... TOOL IS AMAZING WHILE TRIPPING. Lateralus is incredible. Tool in concert on Acid rules. Anything you like to listen to sober will sound amazing on acid. If you like metal, put on some metal. There are no rules for tripping. If you don't like your setting (music, lighting, the room your in, people you are with, alone...) CHANGE IT. You are free.

THANK YOU
i hate when i'm tripping with someone and as soon as you take mushrooms they change the music to tool, and start changing everything they're doing to be in.. 'trip mode'.
there's no problem preparing for something in advance, but just playing tool because you're tripping is stupid.
or, the other night while some friends were doing coke, someone put on 'third eye' and the same guy who puts on tool everytime he trips goes 'why are you listening to this.. you aren't doing any psychadelics'

man, some good heavy music on mushrooms is amazing.
tool is perfect. aenima (as mentioned) and lateralus if you're not already bored of it. 10kd is also really really really fucking good (intension/right in two=perfection)
kyuss is also really good. listen to welcome to sky valley.. tell me how it is after.
colour haze. the sound may not be heavy, but the vibrations definitely. you can feel the power, emotion, and you can hear the guitar wizardry of stefen koglek. i'll see if i can upload a track.
ELECTRIC WIZARD. dopethrone, come my fanatics, and.. maybe witchcult today
incubus. fungus amoungus and s.c.i.e.n.c.e. s'all you need.
sleep. holy mountain and dopesmoker. maybe live @ gilman if you can find it too.
and..
pig destroyer. maybe not, but if you're down then more power to ya
EDIT: guess it didnt work. meh. if youre interesting im sure you can find your own ways of obtaining this music;)

I wondered around on the streets on three hits of decent acid listening to Godsmack...great experience! I think that the best music for tripping is the music you normally enjoy...or whatever you feel like feeling at the time. You want to feel kinda weird and a little confused? Techno. You want to feel calm and peaceful? Beatles, or similar. You want to feel like an invunerable action movie baddass? Godsmack, Drowning Pool, etc.
At least those are my picks, others will react differently to different music.

AFX...so so..Pantera or maybe some metallica I love the 90's grunge scene music..but I have to settle with ambient music and letting my thoughts envelope me. I seem to be the only person I know who can appreciate ambient music everyone else wants to listen to lil wayne while there off their rocker but that just seems to upbeat for me.

I usually don't like to listen to Heavy music but....
One time I tripped with my friends and we listened to some "Heavy" music. We all ate some dealer-bought potent Cubenis-chocolates, and during the plateau, we rode around in my friend (I call him M) car blasting some old-skool Metallica.
Right when he play it, me and my other friend J started to rave hardcore with just our hands. It was a lot of fun and felt like raving to psy-trance. I think its great to listen to Heavy Metal music like Metallica, which has a energetic positive uplifting "tone" while tripping, just not Heavy music (emotional depressing music). Who knows, maybe you like sad music while tripping, but not me!

If by heavy you mean intense I find it to be the best music while tripping.
I get completely lost in the complexity of the music.
The Mars Volta, Mozart & Necrophagis
Just to name a few.

According to taste but
The Beatles white album opens up fuckin crazy style on lsd. try it out.
other than that, give a band called Umphrey's Mcgee a try. They're pretty fun too they do wierd things that are so awesomely apparent when you're tripping and just sit down and listen
yep, have fun sorry i didn't provide vid's.

If you like the music sober, It should be fine. I love metal...
I've been on some of the most intense trips of my life headbanging to some wicked black metal or death metal. If you like the shit sober, why not give it a try. I could understand why some people wouldn't like it... but it's actually really awesome. At least try...
Metal would be my first choice honestly. Yeah... floyd is cool and all those typical bands. But for me pychedelics = energy and metal = energy, so it fights nicely.
