Transfer to COIR

If a 1/2 pint or quart jar of BRF has stalled or stopped producing MYC but has no signs of contamination can it be transfered to either another jar or another container filled with 100% coir to continue with the myc growth then spawn it to a bulk substrate or can the 1st step be skipped.
This to me is a good question because when you have a fully colonized cake you are doing the same thing anyways, I know fully colonized cakes have a really high chance of not being contaminated other then a partially colonized cake, but isnt what I am proposing essentially a "Grain to Grain" transfer?
To make things a little more clear, I have a jar that has MYC in it, it is very white and healthy, would it be possible to open the jar, take out the cake, and with a spoon get the colonized part(s) and transfer it into another substrate. I am pretty sure it is possible but not suggested as it will invite many contams, let me know what you think.

If it has stopped colonizing it very likely has a bacterial contamination. A grain-to-grain transfer is a transfer of fully colonized grain to another jar of uncolonized grain; This can be done with a piece of fully colonized cake as well (a cake is not grain however). ~Pixie~

Well it hasnt stopped growing I just used it as an example it is growing wonderfully but was wondering if I could use the 1 that i have and transfer to another substrate with possibly more nutrients then the BRF cake its growing on, maybe this will increase my yeild? reduce colonization times ect, its just an experiement really, was going to use a pint of pasteruized, coir/coffee grinds, wbsf.
agian this is just a test to see if the extra nutrients help, i obviously have been watching it grow in a plain BRF cake, so I would definetly notice the difference of growth in a different substrate containing a whole bunch more nutrients, I hope I dont get flamed for this I am just running tests really and wanted to see if anyone had something to say about the topic, thank you for all the input!!!!

Yes, you can use a partially colonized cake as spawn for coir. Make sure you remove any and all traces of uncolonized BRF, as it's probably contaminated (or if not yet, it will be.) You can use coir as a non-sterile bulk substrate, but any grain (BRF included) in a non-sterile environment will likely contaminate.
Chances are decent that it will still fail due to contamination on the surface of the mycelium, but it's worth a try. I've done this a couple times with spawn jars I've known were infected, and ended up with flushes from them all.
By the way - a diverse diet does help increase yield, but BRF has way more nutrients than coir.

dont spawn to coir from that.. spawn to a few jars and let those grow, THEN spawn to coir.. I have used half colonized jars to noc up others.. you will be fine..
