Pre Pasteurized Substrate Smells Bad
    #8723672 - 08/04/08 11:20 AM (15 years, 7 months ago)

I just ordered got my order from one of the substrate vendors and it smells really bad.  I sent a pm to the vendor and they said that this is caused by exposure to high heat during shipping, that colonization would be slow, but that it should not affect the overall performance of the substrate.

It has been three days since I mixed in the spawn, and I dont see any growth whatsoever.  Does it take a little while before the mycelium begins to colinize the substrate, or should I have seen some growth by now?

How long should I wait before I ask for a refund if I dont see any growth?

Sometimes it can take a week or more before you see growth. check in after week two.

usually if you have a good spawn ratio you should start to see growth in two days or so and full colonization in 7-11 days.

ive worked with smelly substrate before though that turned out just fine.
