im getting this 9800 gt http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130377
its the best one i could find for the price and its a single slot pci, notice how most 9800gtx are dual slot.
im wondering if there is a better alterniative out there, no one has reveiwed this product no matter how hard i search google, so im not 100% on it.

Thats a single 9800. Its not a dual card. The dual 9800 is the 9800 gx2. Too fat and extremely loud.Make sure u have a strong power supply for that beast.
I have a 8800 gt 512 mb. Excellent slim card, runs crysis with everything on high at 30-40 fps. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130318

the 9800gt is almost identical to the 8800gt in performance and price. the 9 series was a pretty big letdown IMO.
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/251898-33-nvidia-series-series - here is the best alternative available without getting into the real expensive cards.
if you have a lot of cash to blow, the nvidia 200 series are insane though.

You are entitled to your opinion but please be mature.
Anyways you have to judge these things on a generation-by-generation basis, when was the last time you even got into the ATI drivers? They update them monthly. Have you done any kind of comparison whatsoever with the current ATI card against the one you want? Or are you entirely going off of some bad experience with a Radeon 7500?
And "best" really depends on what you want, ATI generally comes out with cheaper, less power-hungry cards, etc. Nvidia isnt always the 'best' for everyone (especially when entire lines of chipsets suffer from fatal heat-cycling problems ).
But anyways, Its entirely my fault for going off topic with this, I dont know why I feel compelled to argue computer hardware on forums. I respectfully concede or whatever, Im going back to mushroom cultivation or something. Enjoy your nvidia card.

its not really off topic and no nvidia card i have had ever had heating problem and im an avid ocer, the last ati card i had was in the counter strike 1.5 era and it hard horrible compatibility with my d3d games so from then on i stuck with what worked,
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130325 thats an ok card but its dual slotted nice rebates though
i ended up going with a single slot 9800 thanks for your opinions

You can find an ATI 4850 for around $150 and it outperforms the 9800GT and GTX.

The cards will die after a lot of hot-cold cycles. Never turning the computer off was recommended by someone somewhere but of course thats not always practical with a laptop. This problem is worse on laptops for that reason. Ive heard stories that HP or Dell or someone was starting to hand out ATI based systems as warranty replacements. Details are sketchy as Nvidia tries its best to spin the problem or keep it hidden. They have a PR nightmare on their hands.
Id say just ride it out, maybe it wont break, if it does hopefully they will warranty that shit and send you a laptop with a non-defective model of gpu.

I hope so. I found a thread discussing this on the apple forums and filled out a feedback page suggested on there. The more pressure the better i figured.

Something about Nvidia in the news today, reminded me of this thread.
http://www.theinquirer.net/gb/inquirer/news/2008/08/12/nvidia-g92s-g94-reportedly
A whole bunch more cards are supposedly failing.
Milkman, you might want to make sure you dont have a g92 or g94 either...
