Well, as said before, the jars have been colonizing nicely. They are now aw seven days. Have a look-see!
Hawaii:
GT:
Brazil:
Argentina:
Mexi-Cube:
These are still in the TiT at about 82 degrees with a towel as a lid. The humans are excited.

Sorry for the poor quality. Trying not to give these babies too much light. Ideas? I've heard some yellowing is normal, but this is a bit more than discoloration. This jar is the only one with it. It became fully colonized a couple days ago, and the plan is to birth it tomorrow.

Hmmm, could be normal metabolites, ect, could be something else. The folks in the contamination forum could give you a real good answer.
Personally, I've birthed cakes that looked like that and had no problems. I would take some basic precautions to protect your other cakes though. If dunk the cake, dunk it in a separate container. If you are crumbling it and casing as is, or spawning to bulk, use it for a small substrate so if it goes bad, it doesn't take a lot of others with it. Wash your hands after handling this one specifically. It doesn't need to be 100% quarantined since your other cakes, once 100% colonized are very contam resistant, but you want to avoid direct contact.
I wouldn't be terribly worried though. If it makes it to 100% colonization, it's the green, blues, blacks, reds, and pinks that seem to actually kill cakes.

The pic above is of the first cake to be birthed and into the fc (which is being fashioned as I type). It is of the Mexi-Cube strain. The humans have been advised not to dunk and roll a cake that has already started to fruit (which is the consensus).
The cakes buddy, who finished colonizing the same day (also Mexi) and has started to show similar signs, is going along for the ride. We'll see what happens!
If they flush, they'll be dunkin and rollin til they're spent.
The humans have been careful not to give them too much light. They have happened upon some during regular check-ups, though. Only night time checks from now on! The other four of the Mexi strain will be the next to come out once they finish colonizing and will be crumbled and cased, as originally planned. That is, unless they also start showing growth before the humans want them to.
Thanks fer lookin, updates soon!

Don't worry about light. Small amounts won't matter at all (that's something that cannabis growers have to worry about during the dark stage of budding). It's a minor trigger anyway - using it in conjunction with FAE and high RH after 100% colonization will improve fruiting, but it won't do jack by itself.
Dunking after birth and after every flush is a great idea. I used to roll after each dunk too. I've since read some very good arguments for only rolling after the first dunk. Subsequent rolling will put a layer of moist verm over any foreign spores that have landed on the cakes, giving them a great environment to germinate and grow. The verm also won't be colonized after the first flush.

Well, that cake that had started growing something funky on it now has another something funky on it. I'm THINKING it's bruising, but given that this is the first grow, am not completely sure. Here's what it looks like. Also, you can see what the growth has turned into. Interesting!

Well, by now the myc has started to grow over the bluish spots, so it's apparent that it's recovering from bruising instead of being taken over by something. That funny thing on the side is getting bigger and browner. Can't wait to see what it does.
Last nite two of the crumbled cakes were cased (Brazil strain) and are now back in the incubator, according to Hyphae's pinning strategy.
Four more cakes have been crumbled (Argentina and Brazil) and will be cased tonite, and a couple more might be ready to either be crumbled or dunked tonite, depending on the strains. A Hawaii cake and a Brazil cake were dunked, rolled, and put into the fc today.
Wheeee!

Spawning to 50/50 substrate/horse poo in a monotub worked great for me as far as fruit AND potency went, and a regular 1/2 pint cake fruiting as just a cake did pretty allright as far as quantity, but potency was weaker than the fruits from the poo.
Thats just my experience, atleast. Since you have a variety of jars, try doing a little bit of everything and when you find that you like something the most, do a bulk grow of all that next time.
Cheers, and keep up the good work =)

Yeah, definitely gonna try different things next time...poo, liquid culture, different substrates...bulk ...when there is more time. This go around time is of the essence. Just trying things out and gettin the feel.

Just my opinion, but I would pitch that bluish cake onto your compost heap. You have 29 other jars. Why risk getting the whole colony contaminated? Just my humble opinion.

The "growth" in that pic looks like primordia beginning to form, not a contamination. The blueing looks to be bruising. I would birth that one now, dunk it for 12-24 hours and put it in your FC if you haven't already.
Nice log and good luck
