I don't understand. Why you would choose to innoculate shakeable grain through four holes instead of one?

More spore? more spawning points throughout the grain. I let my grains get a footing before I shake the jars. Sometimes after innocultaion but not always. and I don`t always use all four holes.

Four holes has no advantages to one hole when shaking grain. You should have a relatively large air space in the top and can easily spray the entire surface through one hole.

Like I said on a previous post, isn`t it amasing how we've been given all these choices. I agree with what you have to say and I most probably will do just that in future, but that still doesn`t mean doing it the way I have is necessarily wrong. Possibly a little bit more effort but not wrong.

Please don't misunderstand me. There is nothing that is necessarily wrong with what you're doing. It will still acheive the end goal of innoculating the grain. This I agree with 100%. The primary issues I see with this method are that innoculating through four holes not only increases the potential for contamination (four insertions of the needle vs. one), and it is more work -- four times the work per jar. Taking the disadvantages into account, I can see no advantages to innoculating through the four holes.

I hear you and I realise that I was going a bit overboard and yes wasting time. So in future I`ll do as you say and rather use one hole and desiperse the solution .

is there a prefered method in doing this? like going in the edge or the middle or what ever?

Personally, I don't really think so. As soon as you see good growth, you're going to shake it to dispurse it. What I do is spray a little over the top layer and then immediately shake it.

I meant about inserting the needle through the polyfil.

i hear through the edge. i think mushmush.nl had the tek with pics. I always use an off center poly-fill hole, with an injection hole opposite of it. both work

I just stick the needle right through the center of the hole. This way, when the needle is removed, the polyfill around the hole expands and "seals" it.
