room temp, dried shrooms.....will last how long?
    #870603 -

ok, so there are alot of good drying teks..... but im confused on one issue. it is said that once they are crakker dry, the fridge, or freezer is best to preserve them.....well, i dont feel comfortable having them readily accessable to anyone who comes to my hose by having them in such a place so im wondering, how long will they last just at room temp, in the bottom of a drawer or something? im sure its not as long......but a few months at least, im hoping.....your thoughts, experiences?

If they are cracker dry and you keep them in a dark, cool place then they will last for years. Your drawer should be fine. Keep them in a pil bottle or something that isolates them from the environment like molds, mildews, pests, klepto friends.

Why keep them for that long though? I'll help you eat them!!

silicon gel works pretty well at keeping them dry. I just put one of those little baggies in with mine and they stay dry. Silicon gel doesnt like poison them or me does it? you can find the stuff in pockets of new jackets and stuff.

i dont "plan" to keep them that long per say, but if for some reason i dont have the opprutinity to trip ( responsibilities suck) i want to be sure that the method i keep use to store them will assure me a good trip when i get around to them......theres a good chance they wont stay in there long though.....

Put them in the same type of jar u use to for cakes (canning jar) lid nice and tight and put in a sylicon capsule. Keep in the dark. No problem as long as they go in the jar cracker dry!

I still have 2 jars of cracker dry shrooms in my drawer. I dried them to within an inch of their lives and put them in clean 1/2 pint substrate jars with rubber seal lids and closed them up tight. I expect them to last for at least a year.

Good luck to you

If they're stored in a dry, cool place with minimal light exposure, cracker dry shrooms can last for years and years.
