Alabama Slim said: pasteurizing does the opposite, it reduces your chance of the mean green. get some oven bags or a pillow case and get the pasteurizing.

Although I'm more of a jar and pressure cooker kinda guy for pasteurization, something about the pillowcase thing I just really don't like for some reason

yeah i always figured the more you kill off the better. it just seemed to make sense right? wrong! i thought the same thing once upon a time. well i guees when you paseurize it, it leaves behind some "bad stuff" which fights off the other "bad stuff" from contaminating your casing untill the mycelium takes a good hold on everything. lol.. something like that. just not explained in technical terms. do a search and im sure theres tons of info on your question. im sure someone will jump in and comment also! im just not goos at explaining things. I know i read about it on here somewhere before and it made sense to me.

It leaves beneficial bacteria behind and kills the harmful kind. I feel ya on the pillowcase thing. If im just pasteurizing I normally use half gallon jars, if its alot then I use contractor trash bags.
