i am currently in the process of colonizing 7 Pf tek BRF jars, 4/7 100% colonization and consolidating since today and the other 3 jars at 85% or more, all the jars are sittiing on the top shelf of my closet at 74-78 farenheit and have been doing pretty good since i inoculated on 07/14...well i am having some climate control problems in my house, broke a/c, and the jars and i have had to endure 85-94 degree temperatures for the past two days and likely one more....now im wondering how much damage this is doing to my cakes?not that bad or real bad on a scale of 1-10? thanks for any info

Those temps will not "KILL" the myc, but it will definately stall the growth.
Psilocybe cubensis mycelium has an ideal growth temperature at 86°F and a "thermal death temperature" at 106°F. (TMC). Which means it literally dies at 106°F. But once the colonizing jars reach higher temperatures, the mycelia will eventually slow growing and halt for 2 main reasons. As it approaches thermal death, it is less and less likely to continue to grow effectively. Further, higher temperatures will almost always lead to a drying out of the substrate. When substrate becomes dry, mycelia will stop growing (since it needs water to propagate). Also, dry substrate becomes impenetrable for mycelia - as PF substrate becomes hard and brittle when dry. Your best bet is to keep it as close to 80°F (warm but not hot) as possible, and fluctuate only as necessary. The temperature inside the jars is always a few degrees above the outside temperature since the mycelium generates heat while colonizing the substrate. Since the reduction in growth drops so sharply at 86 degrees, it is best to keep temperatures lower to avoid the risk of exceeding the maximum point of return.

74-78 is good. Room temp is good. The problem with temperature is the fuel it gives for contaminates. When will your ac be getting fixed?
If its going to be awhile I might consider finding the coolest place possible, or even put them in the fridge until its cooler. The growth will be slow at temps that hight, and the possibility goes up a pretty good bit.
Will it work? Yes. If you are sterile, and you are sure that you did everything right then you should be fine.
As an added precaution I may spray the shit out of the closet everyday to kill as much nasty shit as possible. I assume you are using a dry layer of vermiculite on the top of the cakes? That or tyvek or polyfil. If so then you should be fine. Maybe spray around them everyday though...With lysol that is.

just what i wanted to hear,thanks...fix tomorrow hopefully...im using a dry layer of verm,i tried to follow the tek to a T,but im wondering about TYVEK...I read somewhere you can make TYVEK disks for your jars out of envelopes you get at the post office,is this true and if so which envelopes...or what can i use as tykey discs for my jars...im interested in the TYVEK because i figure i can use that as a filter layer between the lid and the band during steam sterilization rather than micropore tape because it got my jars sticky

Your local post office has Tyvek envelopes. They are Global Express Guaranteed envelopes.
Please people, DO NOT abuse this, as the end result will end up costing everyone. I know that you may not realize, but us Mycophiles requesting 50+ of these envelopes a month, with no postage to accompany them, could eventually put the kabosh on this great resource. Only take what you need.
You can also go to USPS website and order them and have them delivered right to your door, free of charge.
