Retrieving Songs from your iPod

My computer crashed, I lost all my songs. I didn't wanna re-update my iPod because I had rare songs that I could no longer find online. I was just goin to get a 2nd iPod to re-upload cd's I had.

I found a way to get them off my iPod (some of you probably already know).

I was fucking 'round the 'puter and made the settings show all hidden files.  I plugged in my iPod, ran the drive through the "run..." feature on start...the folder opened along with the hidden files and lo and behold, the files where the songs were kept opened up. They were named with Caps like so: AVSK, AVEI, EISL, etc... had no idea what it stood for, but I saved to my harddrive, renamed them appropriately and thus figured out that my iPod is an effective portable harddrive.

if you use the media player "amarok" in linux, you can freely move files to and from any ipod you plug into your computer. it wont overwrite or harm the music on your computer or on your ipod.

Also, should this thread end up referenced in the future, winamp allows free movement of files to and from iPods.
