scrape spores directly onto sterilized PF jar cakes?
    #8698571 - 07/29/08 05:23 PM (16 years, 5 months ago)

so i dont have access to syringes or needles.  any thoughts on if its ok to just take some homemade spore prints from last year and scrape the spores directly into the PF tek jars, then shake the jars to distribute the spores?  otherwise, how would i inoculate the jars?

pointers are welcome.

With BRF jars a syringe and needle is needed. After sterilization you dont want to open the jar. Also since there is a verm barrier, you wont be able to get the spores to the substrate. Shaking a BRF jar wont do anything since the substrate binds together.

One more point is that if the print was from last year, it needs to be hydrated before the spores will germinate.

Go to a farm and fleet store and buy some needles/syringes for livestock medication injections.
