Using Perlite as top layer on BRF jars, Also - Spores in Fridge??

So I ran out of vermiculite as I was preparing jars today... I tried to hit up a buddy to get some verm, he wasn't to be found, and they don't sell it in my area. So i just topped 4 of the ten jars with dry perlite instead of dry verm.
This should be OK right?
Also is it better to keep spores in a cabinet in the dark or in the refridgerator??
thanks in advance fellas

I don't know about the perlite, but I keep my syringes in the fridg. but spore prints in a ziploc bag in a cool dry dark place.

I store my syringes at room temp.
For your perlite...I don't think its going to work too good. Vermiculite hold water to keep the moisture up in the substrate. The perlite holds air, and any water it absorbs is slowly pushed out by the air. Meaning you may have a problem with too much moisture. Its just going to push the water out into the substrate making it really wet. It won't hold it like vermiculite will. I might be wrong this is my opinion.

I was only using it as the top layer on 4 jars. It is not mixed in as the substrate, just on top to replace a layer or dry verm. Seems like it would work to me.....?

I would like to think it'll work for you, good luck, I can't see why not if there is enough to make a barrier.
