It should coat the verm and mix in, so I think it has to be ground into flour.

Like a full pint? I'm not aware of any mid-sizes... Full pint jars will take longer to colonize, and therefore may be more open to contam.
PF tek is geared specifically for half pint, wide mouth jars... Next you are going to say the jars are not wide mouth, right?

When I was at my local supermarket, they did not have BRF of any brand, but in the PF tek it said that Rye flour was also ok. I used the same brand (Hodgeson Mills) and got rye flour, everything worked out great, and without having to grind anything.

That really sucks.
Unless you are really itching for money, go spend $3-5 at your local supermarket and get a 5lb bag of rye flour. I got mine at meijer; check in the baking goods or sugar/flour section (depending on how they categorize things there) It worked as it was supposed to

Go buy rye flour or something else (search for a BRF substitute)... I think you need more than a weed grinder to make flour!
And yes, we all start somewhere!

having a wide mouth jar makes no difference in how it's going to colonize / produce shrooms...

Use a blender or coffee grinder. Also, wide mouth jars make getting the cake out much easier.

funny you should ask...
I could never find shrooms when I wanted them, and have never bought them cause getting the stuff to grow them was readily available, a source was not
friend had a book on growing weed, the last chapter was on shrooms, it was the PF tek, but they didnt call it that,
it stated that grinding brown rice was better anyway, and although I can find it now, I couldnt before, so I just decided to do it that way.

Get a coffee grinder they are usually cheaper than a blender and will probably give you a better more consistent flour out of your rice than a blender

You could just use whole brown rice with no verm(except the 1/2-1 inch coating of dry verm on top to prevent contams). Boil the brown rice for about 25mins and strain the remaining water. The rice will hold plenty of water this way. After they are fully colonized dunk them in water overnight and coat them in verm. I use whole brown rice as spawn for bulk substrates all the time and have fruited them as cakes with great results. The jars with whole brown rice colonize faster too.

You can use the brown rice as a substrait, no griding required. It even colonizes faster then grain.

blenders take a while but can do more at once,
a coffee grinder is quick, but only holds so much.
if you want to go cheap, maybe check out a thrift store for either of these items. I had them already.
King Soopers/Krogers now has BRF, although because what I had said to grind your own, I do that, even though we have it now for cooking purposes.
