Re: can you save/preserve mycelium for later use

Here's a little secret from the Agaricus industry.

Water...

Thats it! mycelium fragments stored in water at room temperature for years. Try not to get any agar/medium in there as it will promote growth and exuded metabolites into the water containers.

Yup, distilled water. A piece of mycelium cut from the center of a stem would be a good source of clean, nutrient free material to save in water. Also, drying mycelium is an area that needs to looked into more. I've seen an agar jar completely dry for over 3 months show agressive growth after a few days on fresh agar.

PM me with any cultivation questions.

I just looked at my profile and realized I had a website at one point in time on geocities, it's not there anymore and I have no idea what I had on it. Anybody remember my website from several years aga? PM if so please.

could you extract a piece of mycelium from a cake, place it in distilled water, and then use it to inoculate an uncolonized jar later on down the road?

myco, I've noticed the same phenomenon with Ps. cyanescens and Ps. azurescens. I've observed entire beds of vigorous rhizomorphic growth die and dry up. Half a year later, fresh woodchips were placed on top of the bed and watered. A month and a half later, new rhizomorphic growth appeared.
