read some coir teks... like mine in my signature..

there are many different ways to "use" it, but only a few to prep it, and they are mostly the same.. the easiest way is:

boil a gallon of water in a REALLY big pot, remove from heat, carefully put in brick of coir, cover, and let sit till cool.. thats it.. very simple, and straightforward..

Hydrate to field capacity by dumping water that is 160-170 degrees fahrenheit into a bucket with your coir brick.  If is is already hydrated you may choose to pasteurize (check PH level if your buying a bag of ready to go coir mix).  I use a good mix of stuff (gypsum, coffee grounds, coir, etc.) in my growing mediums like many of the old hands recommend.  I like to add a little vermiculite right at the end to get at a perfect field capacity (that is, wet or dry vermiculite depending on the level of hydration).  The vermiculite does not need to be pasteurized as it is a mineral and not prone to contamination. :shineon: ~Pixie~
