Coir or Manure for first monotub

First off, is it economically and otherwise sensible to use coco coir as a substrate for a monotub?
Then, where can I find it?
If I should just use manure, how can i find a supplier in the city?
I live in the Pontiac area of MI,and have not had much luck with finding anything other than poultry manure.

I just found a place that sells 40 pound bags of cow manure!
Hope this goes better than my last trip to get this stuff.

I like using coco coir and as do some of my friend that grow. Its also easy to get, you can get it at any pet store, if you have a petco then i know for a fact they have it there.

How his naked ears were tortured by the sirens sweetly singing,
For the sparkling waves are calling you to kiss their white laced lips.

coir is lizard bedding, and can be got at any reputable pet store worthy of being in business for ~$6
you can also find it in Hydroponic shops for ~$3.. the local hydro shop is right by my house, so I go there.. its cheaper, and the same stuff..
coir is a GREAT bulk substrate, and I HIGHLY advocate its use.. Poo is great too, but if you cannot find it, then coir is your safest bet...

mix the cow manure with the coir to help with the moisture control.

white lake is fairly close to pontiac. I used to pass it going to clutch cargo's all the time.

If I get a bag of dehydrated cow manure, what additives are best.
in RR's vid he says gypsum and vermiculite, but will that add enough to make up for the apparent lack of success found with buying bagged manure?

its not needed.. he is asking if its a good replacement, not additive...
coir will hold MORE than enough moisture to take you through the first flush no problem.. then just dunk, patch, and do it again..
if you are really worried about moisture control with coir (which you shouldnt be), then mix in some vermiculite with the water when preparing the coir... you really dont need it, as coir flourishes by itself...

defiantly add the verm! i would recommend mixing coir and verm to fluff the poop up edit- gypsum is almost never supposed to be used in mycology

the peat moss and vermiculite will be for your casing.. I personally recommend a 100% vermiculite casing for a whole plethora of reasons that I will not go into right now, but you can use a 50/50 mix of peat and vermiculite for the casing..
your should mix the poo with straw chopped up in 3-4 inch pieces, and pasteurized.. that is a good mix.. about 35/65 straw/poo ration is what I used to use.. dont worry about vermiculite in the substrate.. you will be fine..

How will coir do without any coffee grinds?

Alright.
I have a 60 some liter tub so how many bricks of coir should I use for a four inch substrate?
I see conflicting reports of how greatly it expands is why I ask.

umm.. about 8 times its size..
probably less than 1 brick.. I would say 1 brick to be cool.. they really do get about 8 times their original size... boil a gallon of water, remove from heat, carefully but brick inside, cover tightly, and let sit until 100% cool... thats it.. then, just squeeze the excess water out of each handful before you put it in your tub..

it doesn't matter if you add to much water after you pasteurize you should let it drip dry to field capacity.
